User

Very friendly staff, gorgeous surroundings and breakfast was amazing! Highly recommended and we will be back to try dinner menu.

User

My daughter and I had afternoon tea there yesterday to celebrate my birthday. Sandwiches were lovely, plenty of filling on thick fresh bread. The scones were just to die for and still warm absolutely delicious. Next came the variety of cakes WOW all washed down with a lovely big pot of tea. We will be returning to try the other options on offer. Lovely staff in a lovely place

I don’t know why it’s taken us so long to try out this restaurant however the food and service were perfect. I opted for the good morning gin martini cocktail with marmalade and it was divine. My mussels starter was superb, the juicy sauce was so good I asked for some bread to mop it up with. Mains were steaks which were cooked perfectly as requested. The salad was the best I had ever eaten , it had a sweet dressing. The triple cooked chips were amazing. Desserts we had cheeseboard which was plentiful and the creme brûlée was delicious. My calypso coffee was hot and just right. Puglister cabernet was a good choice. I thorough recommend this restaurant and will be back. Only things I would recommend for next time would be to supply or suggest if anyone wants any bread with the mussels to ask, the waitress was more than happy to supply. The creme brûlée was supposed to come with caramelised strawberries however these were missing , it didn’t detract from the brûlée as it was perfect. We did have 4 fruit flies as guests throughout the meal which was annoying as we tried to eliminate them however they were too fast for us. I would probably suggest removing the fruit bowl from the bar and storing the fruit another way. Honestly the staff and food was Devine. The food was freshly prepared and piping hot to table. Thank you guys, i definetly will be recommending you to everyone.

User

Have just been to the salt House tonight and chose from the special menu. It was amazing. Would certainly recommend the food. The service and atmosphere were excellent will certainly be back.

User

Had the 3 course Christmas menu. Was part off a group of 10 xmas night out. Had to pre order food which turns out great not having to make decisions at the table. Staff where great friendly and efficient. Food was lovely and one of the best xmas meals I have had. Overall great night/meal.

Had food there day and night now and wonderful every time.

User

Came last night for my mams 50th birthday. Staff were fantastic so attentive and polite. Table of 18 of us and we were all served our meal at the same time, no hassle whatsoever. Thank you all for making my Mam's birthday extra special!

User

Called in yesterday after a bracing walk. I had a prawn sandwich and my husband had a ham and cheese toasted sandwich, we shared a portion of chips and a pot of tea. The sandwiches were fabulous, the bread was thickly sliced very fresh and homemade coleslaw, the ham was thick off the bone ham and the chips were real chips not frozen! We then decided on a second pot of tea and I had peach melba and my husband had Victoria sandwich cakes which were to die for. The decor is beautiful and the staff very friendly. We couldn't fault the place and will most certainly be back.

User

Really just wanted a cuppa and light bite to escape the bitter wind. Hadn’t realised had scones and other stuff on blackboard till later. Anyway ended up with toasted cheese ham & tomato sarnie and side of chunky chips that we shared. Really enjoyed. The ham was proper thick cut and tasted lovely and the chips delicious. Neil said his cuppa was canny to. Sunday dinners were looking good and place was well booked up. Think it’s safe to say we’ll go back and I can highly recommend it.

I’ve been here for breakfast a few times in the last couple of weeks and it’s my new favourite breakfast place! The bacon and sausages are great quality (and I’m fussy!), although the bacon could be crispier for my taste. My husband tells me the black pudding is excellent, and the toast is lovely, thick and fresh served with real butter. The coffee is very nice and served in decent sized mugs - I hate it when you pay £2.50 for a cup that’s gone in 3 mouthfuls!

My only complaint (and the reason for 4 stars not 5) is that every time I’ve been the poached eggs are over cooked, with the yolk either mostly or completely solid. I like runny yolks, and although I appreciate they are very busy I think this is something that needs pointing it as it does take the edge off an otherwise excellent breakfast!

Hoping to try the evening menu next week so will report back on that!

Been in Seaburn for a few days visiting friend for her parents birthday etc.

Been here every morning for breakfast and had most of the menu now... Kedgeree, Kippers, Full English, Omelette, Protein Breakfast (that's smoked salmon, spinach & eggs) even had Pancakes (the American style ones with Maple syrup) one morning, everyone I've had has been tasty and cooked OK.... Think the portions could be slightly bigger but that's probably because I'm used to transport cafe's when at work.

Saturday and Sunday were a bit of a pain as getting seated was difficult although virtually empty when I arrived - nearly every table had reserved markers on and was asked not to sit on them (hence giving a score of 4).... Get it if it was a restaurant in a evening BUT for breakfasts sorry if its full its full you takes your chance in my book.... Lot's of parents then coming in with children in pushchairs etc filling the floor up making it a nightmare for staff and customers to move around.

Sunday had One little treasure shall we call her deciding to go running around putting its grubby hands in other people's food.... They were promptly asked to leave.... My food was replaced on the house so Well done for that.... Can't believe some parenting these days (Having said all that, that was not the Salt House's fault)

PS it's a bloke thing I'm sure....Love the wooden crate design on floor, given me an idea for my kitchen floor back home that.

User

Nice Sunday lunch...asked about desserts and she handed us the menu but failed to mention the other cakes obviously at the front.

Ended up with something we weren't that keen on..

Really should let people know it's not just the 4 options on Sunday lunch menu.

User

Food was nice when it came but child’s meal didn’t come with the others

Asked for hot water for tea as tea really strong but staff had to be reminded

User

First time I've been cant fault service and food was lovely the only thing I didnt like was we were asked to move along on our table to make another two seater which we didnt mind but then another couple who sat in those seats was asked to move after they had sat for the a while and orderd their food so a group with babies could get in with high chairs after all the fuss they caused over a bit room they asked for the table to be put back . Find it all abit inconvenient when your trying to eat your meal . If you have a full house you cant make every body happy moveing people about .

User

Decent coffee but I don’t recommend it! Will be the last time, here on my own with Daphne Dog. Had to leave her with a stranger because they don’t come out to take your order and you can’t take your dog inside. Please chose a more organised cafe for your dog walking cuppa stop.

User

Went in sat down in front of the fire, we were told someone would come over to take our order, other people came in and sat at tables and got served, we left. Nice looking place and full but didn't get the chance to try anything, poor service really.

User

Heard lots of good things about the sunday dinners but sadly it was really average. Undercooked veg, tasteless and I was still hungry afterwards. So disappointed. Coffee and cakes are nice.

User

Bit disappointed when a couple couldn't make it today and we were only told that the deposit wasn't refundable when we got the bill.

It took about half an hour before all the finished plates were took away (not that it was busy) and people had to get up for their drinks because they'd forgot. Poor service today for me!

User

So dissapointing food was cold staff were rude and after we sent breakfast back noone came over to see if we wanted drinks bill so had to go to the till only to be ignored by 3 staff members then eventually asked "are yois the ones that sent ya food back?" Yes that was us...then just told..theres no bill! That was it no apology .... i dined here for breakfast about 6 weeks ago with a group of girlfriends we spent a bomb and it was an entirely different experience...this time staff were full of attitude!
