We travelled from Kent as a group of 4 adults and ate here twice for lunch as the food was so Good! We tried the mussels, cod, burgers, chicken Kiev and scampi, all delicious!

Well priced, prompt service and great food!

We have been going to the sloop for a few years now always a great atmosphere and the staff are always the same friendly polite welcoming. Tony who guards and polices the sloop is a real character in the summer with great jokes and stories. Real traditional pub in the lovely st Ives šŸ‘Œā¤ļøšŸ‘Œ

Service good loved the old world charm and on a Wednesday night we were treated to live music , a light snack was tasty .

How can you not love this pub?! Love it! Fabulous food, fabulous staff and the alcohol ainā€™t bad ā¤ļø. Celebrated my 60th Birthday in St Ives and had my birthday lunch here.

Whenever we are visiting we always call in. Had 3 lunches last week and all were delicious.

Great atmosphere with the quirky layout of an ancient Cornish fishing port pub! Nice food too, fish and chips was light and fresh. Thoroughly recommended

Been coming to The Sloop since 1964 with my first wife -Joyce - still is! from Glasgow then Hitchin Herts. For me literally the centre of St.Ives. Great pub, great atmosphere, great beer, great food, takes dogs so simply great pub! (Only sad thing is John the barman not around anymore. One of the characters of the many Snug Pints)

A real pub! Went twice. Didn't eat but had a selection of Ales. Decent live music Sunday before the bank holiday....great in every way.

Had a few drinks here with family and our two dogs last night. As we were sat near the door and the pub got busier I put my Jack Russell in my fleece on my lap giving customers more room to walk in. I was approached by a young barman asking me to put my dog on the floor as it's their policy.... As I was speachles and gave a chuckle he walked off to get the female barmaid who told me that I had been told once to remove my dog from my lap. I asked why and her answer was because everyone will want to put their dog's on their laps. As I smiled with disbelief she then said and he is too near the table, but failed to say anything about the husky who's head was touching the table. There was nobody eating and people who sat near us also commented how ridiculous her attitude and reason's were. Never mind the other pubs nearby were far better with their manners and they will have our future custom.

Food is great however dog rules are ridiculous! It is a dog accepted pub NOT a dog friendly pub My little chap is extremely well behaved however doesn't like to be on the floor with people stepping over him as they sit down Why can't small dogs sit on an owners lap ? No food was being served by us however large dogs can sit with their heads right by tables We are here to work for the season and will definitely be going elsewhere to spend our money.CanI say we have been 3 times in a week and spent over Ā£150

User

Went there yesterday for lunch to meet some friends, never again!Wasn't until today and noticed the bill!Ā£4.70 a pint!Piss take!Carry on like that and you will end up with empty pub!Use Wetherspoons round the corner that's my advice!

User

Its ok because there are not many other options! Definitely not over dog friendly. I was sat on a bench which toppled over, sending me a drink and a glass to the floor. No offer to replace the drink and no sppreciation that I had picked up all the glass. This is an idyllic location where the mansgement think they are doing you a favour. Such a shame. Food looked very average.

We are a small family of me, my partner and our young daughter (2yrs) and just arrived at The Sloop Inn for our New Years break in St. Ives. On arrival we got checked in quiet quickly which was a bonus as the journey took 5 hours! That was the end of the good experience. We went for dinner else where to explore the town but when we got back decided to have a drink in The Sloop. We went through the Cellar for as advised on entry and walked into the bar and ordered a drink. We walked through an opening and sat down at a table to have the drink. After 15 minutes we had a waitress come up to us and say that she thinks we are in the wrong area and children are not allowed and must move. This was embarrassing but said can we finish our drink and we will move. The waitress said she will check and then another waitress came (possibly a manager) and said we must move to the area adjacent where there was no tables. This again was very embarrassing and distressing to our young daughter. The waitress then said she will find us a table which to move to and proceeded to talk about bar licensing to confuse us (My husband deals with bar licensing on a daily basis and knows she was not telling the truth). Whilst she was gone the couple next to us said they didnā€™t even realise that our young daughter was there and apologised to say they werenā€™t offended. The waitress that saw us then sent her colleague over to move us which was very embarrassing and felt awfully discriminating! We said that the bar allows children until 9pm and we could sit in our current place but this was pushed to one side and said we had to move. The time was 8.10pm and we are staying in one of their apartments! There was no segregation between bar areas (which is one continuous bar and no division or sign to say). We moved as this was getting very embarrassing and people staring and pointing which felt very degrading! Unfortunately we have booked into this apartment for a week and this is day one! Why let a family with a child check into an apartment when the facilities donā€™t allow! We appreciate that there was a sign saying children into cellar bar only up until 9pm unless finishing off food, but no sign saying they would be in the same bar area! Reception also couldnā€™t sell the food and bar areas enough advising us to go and eat etc but still never mentioned any restriction on young children being there. Never been so embarrassed or upset staying in a place! We have had many great experiences over the years staying in St. Ives and Carbis Bay but this has to be the worse!!

Was stormed at by the rudest waitress I have ever encountered...my crime...having my well behaved little dog on my lap, nowhere near a table either. Iā€™ve spent loads of holiday money in this place, not a penny more I can tell you! Sort your business out Sloop!

User

This place is rediculous was celebrating my birthday and cos my friend was a bit wobbly walking to the bar literally just walking up to the bar she wouldn't serve us. used to use this pub a fair bit but not again the staff was very rude. I continued my pub crawl back round town there is much more friendlier and better places round town I won't be even attempting to go to this pub again anyway.

User

The staff here were very rude when one of my dogs wanted to sit on my lap. This was after purchasing a drink. The blond lady expressed ā€˜the dog isnā€™t allowed on your lapā€. We have frequently visited this pub when away on holiday but will never visit again. Also poor disability access.

User

The pub looked ok from outside but when we went in the tall blond haired bar/glass collector was very rude so we all left without having any good or drinks and went to another pace sure they were polite.

Not happy today when visited at a very quiet time late afternoon on a Wednesday before the evening rush and after the lunch rush, we were starving and ready for a drink after a long day on the beach with my husband and little boy who was asleep in his pushchair. We had already put the pushchair which isnā€™t particularly big out of peopleā€™s way tucked next to a table for us to eat but this wasnā€™t to the rules so were asked to move to the family area. The lady at the bar was apologetic and we were happy to move to the family area again with probably one family in it at the time so not busy which we could use to eat but we had to put the pushchair down, we of course didnā€™t want to wake the little one. I wasnā€™t prepared to sit outside where it was busy with people and thought it was common sense to sit away from their customers (mainly couples not eating just drinking) enjoying the late afternoon sun but I really think it was unreasonable to request I wake my baby up to close the pushchair and what if he didnā€™t wake up as they often they donā€™t actually wake even if you want them to, would he not take up more room lying asleep on the Seats plus itā€™s dangerous? Just really felt bemused and left the establishment, since then seeing other reviews it seems the rules are there but no common sense is applied to the given situation. If it was heavily busy we would not of even tried to get in so a loss really of two healthy appetites and a bad review at the end of it which is a shame.

I called in the sloop inn for a meal and a drink.

I asked the bartender if I could sit near a socket while I dine to charge my phone, I explained it was nearly dead and as I was a bit nervous about walking back to my hotel on my own. He said I couldn't charge my phone it was a weird rule of the manager. He could see I was genuinely shocked, I explained, I felt vulnerable and it was dark. He still refused and I left. I called in at the next pub along the sea front "The Lifeboat"

What a difference! The gave me a lovely seat next to a charger, the cider was delicious and on offer and the 'Fish Pie' was amazing. . Shame on you Sloop Inn St Ives!!
