PUB QUIZ TONIGHT @7PM!!!PUB QUIZ TONIGHT @7PM!!!

We have visited this establishment before after recommendations and it's an easy ride out for us...about 25 mins away. So, when we decided to have lunch out one Sunday and were in that direction, we decided to have a 2nd crack...and things have got even better since our last visit!

Service here is really good. We assume it's the manageress, but a young lady greeted us with a really friendly welcome, and not long after offered us a choice of tables. Dogs are allowed in and the pub doesn't give the appearance of a spruced 'gastro pub', and thats what we like about it. It seems like a real pub serving superb food.

We were quite late at arriving and were told that roasts after 3pm weren't possible, though this didn't seem to be a massively rigid rule. We both opted for the roasts and were really pleased we did. In all honesty, whilst the cut of Pork was decent in it's shape and size, it wasn't the best quality meat we've ever had, and it was the only even slightly negative point in our entire visit, but the chef did what he could under the circumstances. The vegetables that came with it were absolutely first class however...a massive bowl we couldn't finish. The gravy was delightful and my wife, who has a smaller appetite normally, asked for more! Prsentation was also spot on - the chef should be aware that his micro veg were noticed with the corned beef hash...absolutely brilliant and real attention to detail.

Other courses were great too, and there is a good choice of beers and gins.

I would wager that this could become a michelin star winner before too long, like it's sister establishment. I've eaten worse in such awarded eateries...and we'lld efinately back again, but won't leave it so long until our next visit.

This pub has it all, cosy atmosphere, lovely staff, amazing food either a large Carter or pub classics..desserts to die for and their own brewed lager...The beer battered fish and chunky chips are the best I have ever tasted...

User

The marmite king prawns were flipping amazing followed by a beautiful roast dinner, lots of potatoes and meat which is never a bad thing. I only wish I had room for dessert, just means I have to go again. Lovely meal and very polite staff. It's nice to go out and have a beautiful meal in a relaxed setting..good work guys

User

Such a great place to eat and drink, fantastic food and the staff are really good and very happy to help. Highly recommend

User

Spent the evening catching up with friends at one of their themed nights "Ale Tasting" some great live music and the food was as fantastic as always. Welcoming, friendly environment with great service and food.

User

Secret little hideaway this, in the badlands of the Devon/Cornwall border.

Amazing food (cannot recommend the Black Pudding Scotch Egg highly enough, fantastic!), friendly, helpful service and an all round great atmosphere.

Try it, you will not be disappointed!

User

Me and my husband had dinner here on Saturday night and it was amazing.

For our starter we shared the 7 bird terrine which was very tasty. I then had the Duck breast, which was the best duck I've ever tasted. The chocolate pudding was also a triumph.

To add to this amazing food, the atmosphere was lovely and the service staff were very knowledgeable and friendly.

Would recommend to anyone and everyone!

User

Interesting to read the negative reviews when we had such a good experience yesterday. The 8 course tasting menu was delicious and great value for money. The staff were very pleasant and attentive. We chose the place on our way to our holiday destination in North Cornwall because the menu looked so good and our dog would be allowed in the bar.

User

Called in today for a meal on our way home from our camping holiday.

Seen the pub several times on the Springer Spaniel Facebook page.

What a delightful pub, lovely friendly welcome, and the food was out of this world!!!!

The fish and chips were amazing as were the tapas!!!!

Food is plentiful and beautifully presented.

Lovely welcome for our dogs.

Will definitely be making this a regular stop on our way home each year. .....

User

Absolutely brilliant! Called the day before to see if there were any vegan options on the menu (me and my boyfriend are both vegan); there wasn't but the chef put a menu together especially for us with 2 options to choose from for each course! All the food was absolutely delicious and service was really friendly and attentive. Chef also gave us some of the leftover dessert he had made up for us to take away! Would definitely recommend to anybody looking for a fine dining type pub experience! 10/10!

User

A hidden gem.....What a treat!

I did my research before visiting the area as I was looking for somewhere 'perfect' for Sunday lunch while we were on holiday in Cornwall. The Sunday Roasts were fantastic & great value for money, starters & desserts too hit the spot. Such a lovely atmosphere & we were made to feel so welcome......the perfect lazy Sunday afternoon with family, next to the fire enjoying some amazing food.

Everything we were looking for & more........LOVED IT!

User

We booked Sunday Lunch, and was told they would be busy till 2.30pm , which suited us. Were shown to our table at 2.15pm waiter took our order but we had to wait nearly another half an hour before being served. My partner had the roast beef which he found rather tough, I had the sea bream, it was beautiful, the desserts were scrummy but not a lot to choose from. All in all a very nice meal, big plate of a variety of vegetables, at a very reasonable price. Definitely visit again, as we are often passing.

User

10 sat down for lunch. At first I thought we were in a private dining room but alas no, not that it mattered of course. A nice atmosphere, staff were friendly although I did have to go and find someone to ask for butter to accompany the bread on my starter and to ask for sauce for the kids meals. Each dish looked amazing, my

Main course of Bream fillet was delightful and light, ideal for a 3 course lunch. Deserts went down a storm and the ice creams were heavenly. The bill was surprising too! Will go back again.

User

Visited for the first time with some friends. Lovely atmosphere & very friendly service. The Cornish Mackerel starter was divine. We thought the choice of main course was a bit limited but settled on steak which was OK if a bit pricey.

User

Really friendly staff, but food pretty poor we are vegetarian and had watercress soup which was so salty it was almost inedible and oily and tasteless, we followed this with the pea and mint risotto which was equally salty and a little slimy. Might be amazing if you eat meat but suspect not .the Prosecco was good ...........

User

We booked a table for a joint birthday celebration for 5 of us for Sunday lunch. We felt the service was slow, the food mediocre for the price, drink orders were wrong and when pointed out we got curt replies. The beef was chewy and the roast potatoes very salty to the point were we couldn't eat them. We asked staff twice for more gravy but none arrived. We were very disappointed and won't be returning.

User

I was looking forward to this, not sure if you had a different chef on the Sunday 17th but it was not great. Considering how rare the beef was if was very chewy, and roast potatoes very very salty. The waiter was nice and apologetic but long waits in between courses for table to be cleared, wrong drinks brought and no extra gravy when asked. Adjacent tables also complained about food. Starters were very nice. Just let down by main, dessert and service.

User

Well we had to call in as we was staying locally with our two Spingers, Molly and Lola. My girlfriend went to the bar to get the drinks while I sat with the girls. I said to her “bring back a menu and maybe we’ll eat here. When she returned with the drinks and menus, she told me she’d had to leave her bank card. Why!!! Also they had taken for the drinks using her card although she actually wanted to use cash. Needless to say we got the card straight back, and certainly didn’t bother ordering food.

Is it me being over cautious?? I’m not happy handing over a bank card to a complete stranger. I can think no legitimate reason for them to want our bank card. I’ll report back once we’ve checked the account

User

Ok so we have just driven for over an hour to have a meal for a friends birthdays at the springer spaniel!!! When your sitting at the table or paying for your bill and dread the waitress asking if everything was ok you know it wasn't good!!! Unexciting menu, cold food, bad lifeless service, long wait for 2 of the remaining 5 meals to come and to top it off high prices. Won't be making that trip again!!!!!
