The Steamer Inn Description
The Steamer Inn stands in one of the finest waterside locations on the Isle of Wight. With panoramic views across the English Channel and a superb, safe, sandy beach just a pebble's throw away, you would be hard pressed to find a better base for a holiday on the Island. Shanklin has for many years held the sunshine record for the United Kingdom. The town and the quaint Old Village are within easy walking distance via the cliff lift.
The Steamer offers excellent accommodation with eight rooms, all en-suite, four having balconies overlooking the sea where you can watch the sun rise over Culver Down. Our kitchen has a growing reputation for excellent local "nammit", including the world renowned Ventnor Bay crab and lobster. We are a free house offering a selection of traditional ales, lagers, wines and spirits. Why not sample our wares in the spacious bar with its large collection of seafaring memorabilia, or relax on the terrace and watch the world go by.

It’s a nice day here at The Steamer Inn! 🍽🍷☀️
What an amazing place. The food was outstanding the staff couldn't do enough for us and we had the best holiday to date there. The breakfasts were stunning and the day and evening menu has a wide variety to choose from, and the portion sizes would satisfy the largest of appetites. I honestly cannot fault this place. You couldn't ask for better friendly staff and the rooms were spotless. We stayed in the family room which had a good size room with ensuite shower rooms and toilet room. Unfortunately the family room won't be available next year, but if it was we would have booked it for a longer stay next year. Fingers crossed that they change their minds and they did say they would keep in touch if they do.
All in all it was a brilliant holiday and was so sad to leave.
Thank you steamer and all your staff. You have made our holiday amazing.
What a wonderful family pub with great dinning, amazing food and plenty of it,great atmosphere and good all round pub
We will deffinetly be going back here, I highly recomend checking it out!
Food was fantastic! I had the pie of the day, which that day was chicken and mushroom. Large succulent peices of chicken, good ratio of chicken to mushroom, nice creamy sauce and perfect pastry, loads of really nice and perfectly cooked vedge and an amazing gravy. My partner had the fish pie which similarly had large chunks of fish and she really enjoyed her meal too.
Prices were reasonable and the quality and service was second to none.
They had a great selection of Beers & Ales including local ones!
Nautical decor inside was great and nice and warm and great atmosphere.
There is a roofed terrace out front with room for several tables and chairs with heat lamps for cold evenings and there is with a fantastic sea view as is located yards from Shanklin beach.
All the staff where really friendly and welcoming.
We were also told they have great live music often and the rooms upstairs are nice and it makes a great base for long weekend. We will deffinetly be going back here, I highly recomend checking it out!
We had a lovely evening staff were lovely helpful in all a great place to go for the night
We come and eat at the steamer every time we come over. We come over 6 or more times a year have eaten there twice this week already
Shame can't book in the summer through but we live the food so come early
Was on holiday on the island September 2017 and must of eaten here most of the time. Absolutely fantastic food and great service
Thoroughly enjoyed 2 visits this week. Friendly, motivated, hard working staff - great food and drink with a fantastic view. Highly recommended.
One of my favourite places to eat on the island. My family and I go there every time we visit the island
My husband & I spent 2 nights here as we live on the Island & are planning on going abroad in a couple of months. We stayed in room 2 & had a balcony & lovely views. The breakfasts were fantastic & we ate our evening meals there too. The staff were fantastic & nothing was too much trouble. We loved taking drinks up to our room & chilling out on the balcony enjoying the music. The room & bathroom was lovely & clean. We plan on returning to have a cheeky night away & have fun in the local arcades :)
Lovely and friendly place, met at the door by a very pleasant and happy young lady, bar staff were very cheerful and staff serving food were excellent.
The food is excellent , there’s a vast menu to choose from, I have to follow a gluten free diet and there was plenty to choose from, the portions are very generous , Would definitely go the again.
Just had yet another gorgeous meal at the Steamer Inn. I love this place and visit every time we come over to the Isle of Wight.
Great food. The chicken and tarragon pie was delicious and so were the four different types of vegetables. All cooked to perfection! We will certainly be back.
Great food. Really helpful and friendly staff. Great surroundings. We wouldn't hesitate to go back if we're ever in the area again.
Excellent food. Fish and chips was huge and delicious and the pie of the day came with a variety of wonderfully fresh veg. Ok so you have to go and place your own order and wait a short while for a table. But definitely well worth it.
Great location right on the sea front . Big choice not always a good thing in my opinion. Peppered steak pie and vegetable pie ordered , pastry too thick and undercooked . Fish stew okay . The toilets could also do with a makeover .
Very disappointed with the sharing platters; Vegetarian Mezze and Baked Camembert.
Only a few sticks of veg with tiny sized dips and oddly wraps (nothing to put in them?). The camembert was hugely overpriced for the size of it particular as a sharer? Usually love the food here.
I had burger the bun was stale, fish & chips the fish was watery, liver & bacon the liver was powdery, gammon was ok, haven’t eaten in there for a while thought we’d go went with family who were down from mainland with us, won’t be going again
Food was really good, but music far to loud ,my ears were ringing, music was good but not suitable for dining, couldn't chat over meal , more like shouting, ate food and left before pudding .
Barred for speaking too loudly at 7.30 on a Friday night. Jog on...
