The Swallows Nest, Romsley Description

Previously known as the Fighting Cocks, The Swallow's Nest is one of the few inns to have stood the test of time in Romsley. Although with our age comes a tale of haunting as it is said that a previous landlady, whose ashes were scattered in the grounds, still haunts the cellars. So avoid her by sticking to the bar and enjoying a pint of the Real Ale she so jealously guards.
A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

User

We went last night for my husband's 40th birthday and we had a lovely night. Great food. Great atmosphere. Heather and her staff were outstanding and couldn't do enough for us all. Highly recommended x

User

Lovely food and staff was very helpful we will be going back again soon

I've been to the swallows a few time now but for some reason yesterday was really nice. Service was excellent staff are very helpful and always smiling. The drinks were just what the doctor ordered. We ordered Sunday roast and the meals were well presented. Lovely and hot deserts were just as good. The atmosphere in the pub was really. Coal fire burning. Lots of people with their dogs(all well behaved I must add) having a cozy drink. We could have stayed all day but sadly had to go home. Will definitely return again

Cozy place, lovely view, and very helful staff! My favorite place!! Simply love it!

User

2nd time we have visited, lovely food, great service will definately return

User

we went on friday at 8pm unfortunately, most of the mains from the set menu had run out, but non the less wot we had was enjoyable three courses. The staff were lovely and we realy didn't have to wait any time at all for food. All in all a nice chilled evening.

User

We visited the Swallows Nest for father's day. The starter and main courses were superb. Sadly after a 30 minute wait, the puddings needed to be sent back as they had been obviously left on the side resulting in a cold hard brownie and a melted puddle of ice cream. Staff were friendly and our issue was sorted with a smile and an apology. On balance we will definitely return as in the main we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves

Only go for the beer and atmosphere, and it is a great place for both. Good beer, good folks.

I had lunch at The Swallows Nest yesterday with my partner after a 6k walk. I had salmon with new potatoes and vegs, which I knew would be gluten free. It was lovely. My partner had fish & chips and polished off the lot with no issues. I was really looking forward-to having a nice hot cappuccino with my meal, but was told there was no milk and someone had gone to fetch some. 35 minutes later I was still waiting for my drink and wondered if they had gone to milk the cow. The coffee eventually arrived when I had almost finished my meal and the waitress apologised. It’s not that big a deal, but after my long walk I was cold and thirsty and can’t understand how you had run out of money on a Saturday afternoon. I have always had a good experience when eating at The Sallows Nest and won’t let this little blip put me off

User

Had a lunch time experience with our elderly mum and had a nice table overlooking the back garden. Food was served quickly and was lovely. Portion sizes very good and staff helpful and polite. Definitely will visit again.

User

Had Christmas lunch yesterday with my friend. The parsnip soup and Turkey main were both lovely. Requested crumble rather than one of the set choices. This was lovely but we paid the main menu price for it. Does it cost so much more to make than the choice on the xmas menu ????(Im dairy intolerant so choice on this was menu was very limted as Im not a lover of xmas pudding or bakewell.). The service was good and the waitresses friendly.

On the negative side in addition to the dessert issue we waited ages at the bar before any of the staff acknowledged us. We went into the restaurant to tell the waitresses we had arrived (we had booked). They sent us back to the bar where we continued to be ignored by staff right in front of us

Lovely atmosphere in the pub with fires going. Disabled space in the car park was not usable as had not been cleared fully. Anyone parking there would have blocked the entrance/exit to the car park.

14 of us had meal for my moms 92nd birthday the food and service was excellent would definitely recommend for a large party

User

It's such a lovely well kept pub and could be fantastic but was very average when we went on Saturday 1st July. Staff seemed a bit disinterested and the girl on bar had no clue who had been waiting longest. Ordered rump steak only to be told none available. OK. Changed to sirloin at 3.50 a pop more. Then was told later that the sauces we ordered weren't available either. Changed those too. Meal when arrived was underwhelming for the cost and the sauce I ended up with didn't pour it was like cold gloom! Childs meal was fantastic though and looked better than my own!

User

Last nights visit was a bit disappointing.... staff were not particularly helpful, lots of tables blocked off & we were told to find our tables in the bar area. Had to get our own menus & order at the bar (but pay the same price as everyone getting waited on). Food was mediocre, £10.95 for 2 slices ham, 2 fried eggs & a handful of 'triple cooked chips' that were hard, frozen in the middle.... all in all, a disappointment!

User

Had a very bad meal here on Tuesday which is a shame, steak was very chewy and full of grizzle.. triple cooked chips were more like oven chips! Shame as it's a lovely country pub... staff were very apologetic and did knock the steak off the bill.

User

Came here today with my friend meal was ok but the wait was ridiculous took over an hour for food without being told from the off set. Why not put more staff on a weekend as likely to be busy especially being a hot day was not impressed at all.

User

Always a lovely drink and view but the food today was terrible. Only a simple BLT......undercooked Bacon....to the point of inedible....lettuce was brown tinged and looked like it was prepared last week......1 slice of tomato......and the chicken was cold. Chips needed a bit longer to remove the hard bits in the middle too. Defo wont be eating there again...the chef...or sorry the food preperation person lets the place down.

Me and my husband have been eating at the swallows nest for a year now and have always received great food and good service (and excellent vegetarian options). I can’t fault the food but we felt really let down by the customer service we received on Saturday 10th March. We popped by in the afternoon for a bite to eat, the restaurant was full so we were told we could sit in the bar area and order food which we were more than happy to do. We sat next to a table who had just ordered food, my husband goes up to the bar once we had decided what we wanted and was told no food orders for people sitting in the bar, without any explanation. I understand the pub was very busy but we felt that our custom wasn’t wanted, especially when the table next to us were eating. Very poor service and we did not feel valued at all. I’m sorry to say it left us disappointed as we had always enjoyed coming to the Swallows Nest.

User

Having been before and enjoyed the meal and atmosphere in the restaurant we booked a table on Friday 20th April for two as it was our anniversary. Upon arrival it was clear the place was very busy and that the staff both bar and waitresses were clearly under pressure to cope. After a few minutes waiting at bar we were first told that no tables were available, but after explaining we had booked were shown to a dirty table in the restaurant area. And there we sat and waited, waited , waited! Trying to attract staff attention was proving to be challenging as there didn’t seem to many staff on duty and those that were around were clearly under pressure . Then out of the blue after 35mins if waiting a meal was brought out to us , great but as we hadn’t even ordered or been given the chance to place an order yet this clearly was for someone else!! This meal turned out to be for the table next to ours, and from chatting with these diners who told us that they two were keep waiting with missing meals from there party and many missing items off the menu and having to send meals back , to do ourselves a favour and go somewhere else! After a further wait of 15minutes I managed tostopa waitress to ask we could at least have a drink please and was told in no uncertain terms and what came across in a aggressive manor that we can see how busy we are and to bear with us!! Sorry final straw so we left not even having so much as a drink and after wasting over 45 mins feeling hungry and very annoyed at our choice of venue! Very very poor will not be coming back here anytime soon . What a let down on the previous visit
