Reflexology has been reported to be effective at helping to alleviate symptoms of anxiety, depression, exhaustion, chronic fatigue, irritability, hyperactivity, migraines, tension headaches, indigestion, heartburn, irritable bowel syndrome, hormonal problems, sleep problems, allergies, rhinitis, muscular and joint pain.

Dating back to 2330BC, the tomb of Ankmahor in Egypt showed paintings of people giving and receiving a type of foot massage. Based on the energy zones within the body discovered by Dr William Fitzgerald, an American Ear, Nose and Throat Consultant, and the foot maps developed by Eunice Ingham, modern Reflexology provides a wonderfully relaxing therapy.

By using alternating pressure on reflex points, the energy running through the zones can be unblocked, stimulated or calmed. A more scientific or Western explanation would be that we are stimulating or calming the nerve supply to all the organ systems, promoting balance within the body, stimulating the removal of toxins from the tissue fluid around the cells and thus promoting de-toxification and supporting self-healing.

Additionally, the sense of wellbeing and relaxation promoted by Reflexology in the body and mind may help to counteract the physical, mental and emotional symptoms of stress.
