Went yesterday for the bottomless prosecco lunch we loved it! Thought for £30 it was a fabulous deal and Zayn our waiter was lovely and made sure our glasses stayed full!!! We will be back (sorry Zayn for calling you Niall on previous review!!!)

Went last night and felt compelled to review as there are some mixed reviews on here which really surprised me.



As well as last night, we’ve eaten at The Trooper on a number of occasions and never had a bad meal. The food is always excellent, the choice extensive and it’s priced well too - apart from the steak but they’re not alone in charging a lot for steak.



The service is first rate and the atmosphere is always lively without being OTT.



My only issue is it’s always so difficult to get a taxi back from there. Whether the restaurant order it or we do, it always takes ages to arrive. Maybe they should run a minicab service on the side. They’d make a killing.....

Sadly despite having lived locally for over 30 years, I personally have never visited before. That is something I regret. It was an AMAZING evening, fabulous food from a good selection on the menus. The baked Salmon was excellent (my choice) The fish looked really good, and nice big pieces too. Several of the party chose it and all said how tasty it was. A couple of the younger members of the group couldn't finish theirs, don't worry it didn't go to waste.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening, looked after by great staff. My one criticism, the car park doesn't seem to be big enough, but they've managed all these years so it must work.

We will definitely be going again� Thank you to the Staff who do a great job���

My party of 8 had bottomless lunch here today and it was beyond 5*. Food was lovely and a brilliant choice, drinks were a great variety. The best part of it all was our server Beth, she was outstanding, attentive, friendly, funny!! She ensured our drinks were constantly topped up! The bottomless lunch today is going to be our new go to! Fabulous!!!! ******

Meal with my son and husband for a belated Mother’s Day, we all had steak, all cooked as requested and tasted amazing.. service was perfect.. around when needed but hidden when not..

they were happy to swap items (I didn’t want fries but new potatoes)

I phoned the trooper yesterday to see what vegan options they had available, and they ordered in a vegan pizza base for me, I had a lovely salad for starter, a vegan pizza for main and they did me a fruit salad and sorbet for dessert. Very accommodating, very welcoming and when I asked if I could keep the same straw with my cocktail because I was worried about the turtles and they gave me an environmentally friendly straw, which I was over the moon with. Can't fault the place, I loved it will definitely visit again, and recommend.

Had a wonderful meal celebrating my friends birthday, food was beautiful highly recommended! Beth was our waitress and was very attentive! Anything we needed she was there, and our drinks were also topped up! Pay rise is needed for Beth!

7 of us attended yesterday for a friends birthday and had the Bottomless Lunch. The food was superb! Very tasty and portion size was more than adequate. The bottomless drinks were fabulous, and service was good. Our waitress checked in regularly to see if we needed more drinks, and they came quickly. Beautiful setting, and lovely terrace area outside that catches the sun to sit at for drinks or coffee afterwards. If I had any criticism to make it would be that the roast potatoes were not freshly roasted or crispy and hot, they had clearly been reheated in a microwave, but it did not stop me enjoying the rest of the dining experience. Many thanks :)

We went for a friends 40th birthday. The staff were great with our table and very attentive, but when you ask the table “ how is your meal” you need to wait for the answer from the whole table, but I have to say it’s one of the worst meals I’ve ever eaten. I ordered sea bass with gnocchi and peas and asparagus. The sea bass was over cooked and very dry, the gnocchi I could have used as a fixodent for my mums teeth or glue. The whole meal was over cooked. 2 of us had this meal and to be only given £10 off the price of 6 meals in total was pretty shoddy. I won’t go again.

Took my girlfriend to the Trooper on a Thurs night I had reef my beef came out on 2 plates and should have been one. lobster was cold steak was good but girlfriend had pork and was well over cooked then we waited and waited for them to take plates away a hour passed and they still hadn't took plates away or asked us for a desert or even to pay the bill so we left and paid at the bar . Service was shocking

Over priced food with minute portions. I've never seen such a small starter . Really wouldn't recommend as there are places nearby who provide better quality food and better value for money. Living on past reputation.

I went there for a birthday meal with my family on Saturday. Food took ages to come out, then a starter had been forgotten. My steak was like shoe leather, very dry and chewy. I ordered beef dripping chips which also came out dry and tasteless. Best thing about the place is the cocktails.

For a second occasion we had meal to a chorus of a table of disruptive, noisy and rude customers. When mentioned to manager, the excuse was that some have over indulged on the “bottomless lunch” and have taken longer than they thought to leave . This longer time is 45min of horrific restraint time. I see no reason this should be staying on my regular list of restaurants and I shall leave the place to the uncouth drunks

Came this evening for a rare date night meal. Food was good, not very hot but the service was absolutely dreadful, after waiting an age for our mains to come, we was then brought them both without the sauce we'd ordered to have to wait 15 minutes nearly completing our meal at a slow pace as waiting for it to arrive. We then sat with empty glasses and empty plates for 50 minutes. Also took a very long time for 2 cold puddings. I think when your charging a hefty price for food and drink this service should be spot on. Will not be returning in a hurry!

Well thank you trooper for spoiling our anniversary celebration I booked a table for7.30 which we had a conformation for admittedly we arrived a little late first person we spoke to was about 5mins after had waited a while with no where to sit I asked again. How long it would be before we were seated I was told that the booking was for 8.45 I explained that was not right and it didn’t seem like anyone was that interested we ended up leaving I was disgusted in the way were treated I certainly won’t be conning back

We then tried to order our meals2 of us asked for squid and were told they were out of squid as well, so only 3 of the party had starters

From then on it got worse

1 of us ordered mussels another a pizza and asked for onion on the pizza. The 3 starters came and the crispy beef was only just warm. 1 hour and 5 minutes after the starters our main meals arrived. The mussels were quite

Literally almost cold and the pizza arrived with no onion

The mussels were sent back with an expectation of a fresh set of mussels but no they were re- heated and came out 3 minutes later very hot, I believe you should not re heat mussels so this time we complained to the manager who was interested enough to agree and supply us with another set some 20 minutes later, these tasted really fishy and were left to one side. Chips and a side salad was ordered but only came to be supplied when we reminded them and even then we had ordered skinny fries but fat chips arrived, again sent back and replaced after a few minutes. The young lady who had ordered the mussels was now eating on her own as everybody else had finished there meals.

What a complete mess, although the manager was now working overtime to keep us happy he was both embarrassed and at a loss to explain why mussels would be re heated ? And so were we

We then got told 15 minutes after ordering that they had no sirloin left so was kindly offered a fillet for the price of a sirloin. After being seated at 8:30 the food finally came at 9:45, the steak had a horrible stench of fish and the ‘beef dripping’ chips had nothing dripping about them, they were dry and tasteless. The garlic butter sauce was like lumpy cottage cheese. Had to keep reminding the waiter of drinks that hadn’t arrived. Meals were un edible so we ended up paying for drinks and walking out, won’t be returning. Very disappointed.

We were all seriously let down by the whole experience, the cocktails were disappointing at best and the food was inadequate for an establishment which used to come with such a high reputation. A friend of mine ordered a burger which was so dry my friend barely touched it, on complaining, we were told that it was part of the £30 deal and that was pretty much that. I certainly wouldn’t go back in a hurry.
