The Understanding Cat Pain Project

About The Understanding Cat Pain Project

A cat welfare study based at the University of Lincoln, UK aimed to improve non-invasive pain detection in cats

The Understanding Cat Pain Project Description

What is the Understanding Cat Pain Project?

Recognising pain in cats is essential for promoting positive welfare. The "Understanding cat pain project” based at the University of Lincoln, UK is focused on the better understanding and assessing of pain in cats, using non-invasive methods.

How are we helping to improve the detection of pain in cats?

We are particularly interested in looking at the behavioural changes associated with the experience of pain, so that cats in pain can be identified more quickly and treated more effectively, before their welfare becomes compromised.

The way we are doing this is by gathering information from both vets and nurses, as well as the general cat owner population, using videos and pictures of cats.

In order to complete this project, we need as many people as possible to help us collect the data we need.
