We’re getting ready for our first two food bank donations tomorrow morning. We would like to extend our thanks to all our new Instagram followers - we promised to donate £1 per follower worth of food for 500 new followers, but we have exceeded our goal and donated £800 worth instead! Wow, wow, wow, beyond excellent! Luxurious themed rooms, amazing food and nothing is too much trouble for the staff there. It was our first visit to the Hiefer but it won't be our last - just perfection
We stayed yesterday for our Silver Wedding anniversary. We found every member of staff friendly and helpful. The whole place was clean to a high standard and very welcoming. From the open fire, to the interesting décor of the toilets! The food was excellent and our hound enjoyed her treats! We really enjoyed our stay. A lovely memory, see you again soon...
We have just returned from a one night stay at The Heifer and wish we had booked another night....staff were so friendly and attentive,dinner and breakfast were superb,extra treats were scrumptious and the balloon with a fuffy lamb and card was very thoughtful for my birthday. We stayed in The James Herriot room,very comfortable and cosy.....a really special place that we can't wait to go back to!!!!.... (Our little dog Susie had a good time too,she loved her sausage at breakfast).... Thankyou!
The meal was very good, up to their usual standard and the staff were very polite and efficient. Thank you for the nice touch of the birthday balloon, the card and bottle of beer, very much appreciated. I wholeheartedly recommend The Wensleydale Heifer to anyone who enjoys good food ��
The Wensleydale Heifer is our escape from the world. From the moment you walk through the door, their magical mix of luxury, comfort, gourmet food and friendly attention weaves around you, shielding you from your worries and concerns. We have stayed in half a dozen of the rooms, all of which are tasteful, luxurious, supremely comfortable and (just a little bit) mad. The food is imaginative, creative and cooked to perfection. What makes the Heifer extra special, though, is the staff. Julie and her team are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all the food created by David and his chefs in the kitchen. Vince is Yorkshire's most knowledgable sommelier / bar manager. And Lewis has such a passion for the whole hotel that you can't help but be enthused about the tiny details which set it apart from similar establishments. When the stresses and strains of life get too much, retreat to the Heifer and let yourself be spoiled. It works wonders
Stayed in the chocolate room and oh my there was chocolates everywhere. Stunning rooms but the food is unbeatable. Presentation is superb and tastes are out of this world. Staff are amazing so cheerful and helpful

My mum and I had lunch here,again, yesterday and as usual everything was perfect. The staff, from owner David and right across the board, could not be more friendly and welcoming. The food is always beautifully cooked and presented, so much so that we cannot resist having desert even if we promise ourselves that 'this time we won't have one'. It is quite honestly our favourite place to dine.
My husband and I had a meal there yesterday evening to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. At our table we found a card, red rose and an anniversary balloon. We had our 9 month old puppy with us and he was made to feel very welcome with his own bowl of water and pieces of steak. Both of our meals were delicious and cooked to perfection. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Thank you for making our evening special. Can't wait to go back!
Looking at previous amazing reviews it's hard not to just repeat the same again. If you haven't stayed here before you are missing a great experience. The hotel is a historic old place in the quiet village of West Witton but is differentiated from other hotels by the genuine desire of all of the team to make your stay memorable for all the right reasons. No plastic smiles but real people enjoying their jobs of making guests, including dogs!, feel like they are special. Add to that food of the highest quality and imagination, rooms individually themed with lots of guest treats and cozy bars and you get a picture of a totally lovely experience. If you arrive a bit stressed you will leave chilled. Can't wait to go again.
Just back from a restful break at The Heifer yet again, we decided to pop in earlier than check in time for a spot of Tapas for lunch seeing as the weather was a little inclement (not a bad thing 😊) on checking we were offered a pleasant surprise of a room upgrade too!! Then there was dinner....nothing to say but amazing as per usual.....I think it’s safe to say The Wensleydale Heifer is our favourite chill getaway.

The signature local g&t was lovely!!
The food was amazing, I had the Maple Roast Lobster Salad – Canadian Lobster, King Scallops, Tiger Prawns,
Crispy Belly Pork & Smoked Bacon, Baby Gem, Blush Tomato & Croutons, Maple Syrup Dressing, it was the best food I’ve tasted in a long time!!
I loved the cappuccino with the mini ice cream cone, I have never seen that before and was a lovely unexpected touch!!
The chocolates were lovely!!
Had an excellent meal last week at The Wensleydale Heifer while on holiday in North Yorkshire. The food was perfect, everyone was friendly and attentive. Thank you so much for making my son's birthday extra special.
Fabulous stay Sunday 1st April, for our 5th anniversary today. Gorgeous room and wonderful thoughtful little touches made our stay really special. Lovely food (ate too much!) and will definitely visit again. Great location & helpful staff... 5* from us!!
Came in for a meal on New year's Day and we'll what can I say. Amazing, in my top 5 of places to go and eat. Great service, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Great knowledge of the menu. And you could have a laugh with them. Also the pooch was very well looked after (spoilt) � I would recommend The Wensleydale Heifer to anybody. Will definitely be back.
Amazing place! Stayed in the James Bond room full of fab quirky features, food was excellent and cocktails were to die for. All of the staff were so friendly and went out of their way to make sure our visit was enjoyable. Dog friendly too which is ideal for us and Eric our shihtzu had his own dog bed and treats provided along with his own sausage for breakfast. Can’t wait to return!
After a recommendation from family who visit regularly, we came along for a little Christmas treat.
Our stay this weekend was perfect. Really comfortable room with lots of lovely additional touches.
All the staff were wonderful and very attentive.
As for the food, possibly the best we have ever eaten! Huge compliments to the chef’s as it was simply beautiful to look at and tasted amazing!
We will definitely be back!
Absolutely fantastic weekend away. Couldn’t have wanted for more and the food is absolutely amazing. We stayed in the movie star room which was equipped with 3D movies and unlimited popcorn! (Definitely pick this room!) also the bathroom is just fantastic with a huge roll top bath and black and white decor. It’s the gem of the Yorkshire Dales! Thank you so much especially to the restaurant staff and in particular the lovely restaurant manager Julie. Amazing weekend away.
A wonderful experience. Quirky but also exceptionally comfortable room. Evening meal was top quality and the breakfast was superb.

We stayed 23-25 February. The hotel exhumes country charm. The staff are very polite and friendly. The food was good and there was a good, if slightly pricey wine list. The second evening there was a problem with our 8.15 dinner booking which led to us actually getting our main course at 9.45 pm. The puddings are excellent, as are the breakfasts.
All in all we had a lovely weekend.
