Omg this is a pub a pub that serves food yet looking at some of the comments it seems some ppl was expecting a Michelin star restaurant umm check the prices that will give you a clue... this is a friendly welcoming PUB the staff are pleasant and helpfull and if you catch them right very funny. The food is pub food its very well priced and good pub food.. now look if your meal is not the Ramsey style you expected then its simple you say to a staff member excuse me im not quit happy with this meal and the staff will im sure be glad to help resolve the issue ie giving you another meal or a refund.. I have drank here many time and eatern here on a number of occasions with family and friends and I have only ever seen the staff and management treat customers with respect on the other hand iv seen customers make waitresses cry with the way they complain treating staff like they are there personal punch bags there to be sworn at and verbally abused because a chip was burnt or there stake was well done and they asked for medium. RESPECT GOES BOTH WAY

Absolutely fantastic service the food was delicious and the potions were more then ample. Friendly atmosphere and staff so helpful and thank you for your patience in us being incredibly late for our original booking time. Thank you to the kind gentlemen who helped my husband jump start our car.

The food came out straight away but it was that quick people hadn't even got into their seats, the waitresses were young and seemed in a bit of a hurry, the place wasn't busy as it was only just lunchtime. The portions on the Sunday roast were a bit too small.

User

Second time eating here. Enjoyed steak and creme brûlée and my husband had chicken skewers, fish and chips and the crumble. Arrived by boat so great to be able to tie right up outside.

It's a very pleasant pub, we often drop on there on our way back to our mooring at Gayton. We can often use the pub moorings and because we always go in and at the very least have a drink or 3 don't feel guilty!!! The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is good, and on the odd occasion we have eaten there the food has been fine. Would recommend it.

Food was decent had to wait forever though, nearly went home I was so tired of waiting. I ordered crispy belly pork but it lost the crispy bit somewhere. Half of what we ordered was not available. I think lunchtime may be a better time to visit. I definitely wouldn't go for a special occasion again. My arms stuck to the table it was so sticky, I thought this maybe just be an oversight but my daughter informed me it was the same when she went a couple of weeks ago. Maybe clean up your act a bit and employ some older staff to organise better.

A little more attention to detail wouldn’t go amiss

Called in yesterday for Sunday lunch with family. Lovely location by the canal and all the barges. Ordered 2 roast beef and one pork lunch and a garlic chicken breast on a bed of Kale with marscapone. My beef was as tough as old boots. Told the waitress who apologised and said she'd have a word with the chef. Came back with a plate of beef but sadly that was still tough. The garlic chicken was very disappointing, basically a chicken breast plonked on top of a chicken breast with a huge dollop of cheese on top. The staff were quite pleasant. To be fair, they did knock my £12.95 off the bill.

An interesting meal! Some good, some not so good. Using the same batter or oil to cook Haloumi Chips in as the fish is cooked in means the Halloumi batter tasted distinctly fishy! The batter overwhelmed the haloumi too which was a shame as the halloumi tasted lovely when dissected from the batter. The aoli was really lovely but I dread to imagine how much they throw away as a whole bowl was served which was far too much! The beef balti was odd, the beef was probably cooked separately to the curry and may have been a roast joint cut up and added to the 'balti sauce' which was more like a 70's curry like Mom used to make without the sultanas! It wasn't unpleasant just not like a balti and the green beans were a bit strange. Not convinced by the advertised pilau rice either, it tasted of nothing! My ham, eggs and chips was lovely. Fresh eggs, beautiful hand carved ham but let down by the usual frozen chips. I just don't understand why places don't make their own chips! They taste sooooo much better and once you have invested in a peeler and chipper they are much cheaper to produce! Not a bad meal but could have been better, we give it a 5 out of ten. Oh and save some money by providing a sensible amount of sauce and mustard, having an espresso cup full of ketchup and mustard is overkill!

£36 for a few bowls of chips and 2 plates of nachos...neither particularly appetising..plus head chef berating one of our party of 11 for daring to eat outside of his ‘proper’ pub..won’t be goin back

We pre-booked a table for 5 for a Sunday lunch at 1.30 and weren't served our meals until 3! Staff were ignorant and inattentive, having to wait half an hour just to take our orders. After 45 minutes of waiting for our food we got given the same excuse repeated to other tables nearby...that they had to make a fresh batch of potatoes before the food could be served. When we finally received our food it was over cooked and not satisfactory for the amount of time we waited. There were tables who ordered their food before we arrived at 1.30 and still hadn't received it by the time we got ours, so service as a whole was poor. Staff were ignorant, inattentive and unprofessional. Considering this visit was for my Mum's birthday, we were less than impressed and left feeling we had wasted our time. We will not be recommending or returning.

User

There was a dead fly in one meal, the steak I had was so tough I couldn't eat it and they forgot my daughter's meal and it wasn't even busy. Will not be going back.

User

Still waiting for food one hour later two chicken salads, staff are not bothered watching tables who sat down 20 minutes ago enjoy their dinner... not impressed

User

Since being taken over by a chain the food has become awful. We gave this place a second chance after a previous mediocre meal. Has gotten even worse. Staff were very pleasant and apologetic. I blame the owners/chain for taking a lovely place into a run of the mill place. Not even good value for money.
