Just had a brilliant few days here

Lovely warm welcome from the staff and lush food. Quite large amounts so be prepared to be quite full afterwards!

Food not great. Cumberland sausage 'bland' more like a bratwurst. Mash was powered mash potato.Gravy was tasteless. Home made burger had bun so hard could not be eaten. Should have complained but
owner more interested in booking his own holiday rather than looking after his customers so did not think worth while.

It was extremely pleasant . My Gammon steak was succulent and flavorsome. And they can't screw up a diet coke so all round it gets 5*. I completely recommend this fine establishment.

Sunday lunch
At £ 10.50 ish was expecting quite a good meal and to be fair it was not bad.
Well presented with vegetables served separate, beef Yorkshire pud and gravy coming out on plate. Beef I think was either very slowly cooked or braised very moist and tender. Veg well cooked but not mush.
3 hand pull beers available at the bar.

The staff are amazing and the food is
hearty perfect after a walk up Blencathra.

Great food ..good selection of real ales friendly staff..dog treats..roaring fire..what more do you want from a country pub..excellent

Lovely welcome .dog friendly pub even for our damp hounds who dried themselves in front of an open fire. Cosy and warm.. We had super ploughman's big enough to share.and the dogs got a couple of treats!.
Just what was needed after a walk in the rain.

Is there a better way to end a day of hiking than a pint in a warm pub? Highly recommended if you're in the area.
