The White Swan Inn, Pickering Description

The White Swan Inn has been welcoming friends, families and new guests from around the world with enchanting hospitality since 1532. Situated in the historic old market town of Pickering on the edge of the North York Moors, the 16th century building was pressed into service as a coaching inn on the ancient ‘Salt Route’ from Whitby to the commercial centre of York. You can feel the history of this old inn in the atmospheric public rooms sitting by the side of the roaring fires and in the very fabric of the stones of the building that have seen so many travellers come and go over the centuries.

What a gem of a place....Comtemporary design meets period property. The decor in all the public places has been tastefully put together to meet everyone's tastes. From the obviously labelled room name plates to the humourous welcome portfolio in my room, this place is serious about making each guest remember them and return. Amanda was unbelievable welcoming without any pretence...I felt like an old friend returning. Well done to everyone at The White Swan....major tick in the 5* box from me....just wish you weren't so far away...thank you (room 16 June 12, 2017).

What a delightful place in Pickering town centre, after a walk round the castle we were ready for a nice lunch and a few drinks!

The Inn is beautifully decorated keeping the charm and traditions of a Yorkshire Inn whilst serving up scrumptious food!

We sat outside just by the entrance having told the staff one of our dogs can be a bit troublesome when food is brought to the table, as we didn't want to disturb everyone in the beer garden. The staff were brilliant and very helpful and the waitress who served us completely understood the situation and between us we managed to keep the dogs calm and quiet!

The food was excellent! I had the Steak Ciabatta with hand cut chips, the steak melted in my mouth and was so tender, the chips were addictive and if I was being greedy I could of eaten another portion so very tasty! My husband had the rump steak which was a huge offering and he said it was one of the best steaks he has had!

What a fantastic lunch and we would highly recommend to anyone! Perfect!

We have stayed at The White Swan Inn in Pickering for about seven years now for the Railway at War Weekend, the staff are amazing, the atmosphere is lovely, the rooms are oh so comfy after a long day treading the cobbles in Pickering, the food is delicious and we are already booked for 2018, thanks to Amanda, Sara, Glen, Claire and all the team there for making our weekends with you so special.

We had a lovely meal yesterday evening during an overnight stay in Pickering. The service was excellent and we both thoroughly enjoyed the fish and chips plus complimentary warm bread. Reasonably priced and really nice setting with the open fire. Would definitely visit again.

We come here every time we holiday in a Pickering, even our dog refuses to go passed the entrance without us going in! We had dinner last night to celebrate my birthday, it's my favourite place to be. The food is amazing and the service brilliant. I just hope we can squeeze another visit before we have to go home.

User

They got it just right on our 1 nght stay! From the beautiful contemporary decor which fits sympathetically into the lovely, historic building, to the friendly staff, to the quality breakfast and nice little extra touches dotted throughout. Only thing to watch out for is the ferociously hot towel rail. (My partner had dislodged the warning sign - ooww!!)

User

The meal was excellent I cannot remember the last time I had a meal so tasty and will remember it for a long time the staff where great and professional 5 stars please.

User

One of my fave places, so laid back and chilled. Lots of fab pubs and coffee/cake shops in this village and surrounding ones

My husband and I spent just the one night at the Swan. It was my husbands belated birthday treat and we were upgraded to a hideaway room which was very clean and spacious. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the staff very friendly. Looking forward to going again.

Just had an amazing stay with my family @ The White Swan, Pickering. The staff are absolutely amazing & can not do enough for you & make you feel so welcome. My 6 year old daughter even paid compliments to the chef for her improvised turkey & chips ❣️Our Evening dinner was out of this world. Lamb exquisite ❣️Even the naughty elf had fun 🙈

Just got home from a fabulous evening. 20 of us out for our Christmas do in the Bothy. Superb food and surroundings, but made extra special by the service received by our waitress. She worked her socks off, backwards and forwards. Nothing too much trouble. Sorry I don't know her name but wow, what an asset to your business. We will definitely be returning. Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Had such a fantastic night at the White Swan on 5 August to celebrate my Father's 90th Birthday. All the family stayed in Hideaway Rooms and we had a private dinner in the Bothy - beautiful room. The rooms and food were excellent and we had such a happy time. We were looking after perfectly by the lovely Ellie who couldn't do enough to help - thank you! On arrival we had a great welcome from Sarah and I know she has helped my parents hugely in making the arrangements and ensuring everything was perfect. Slept soundly in our very comfortable bed and enjoyed a delicious breakfast before heading home. Can highly recommend.

User

A little gem. Very attentive staff, lovely food , relaxed atmosphere and fabulous room. We stayed in the Hideaway rooms which are at the back of the Inn so was quiet and had a separate lounge in an old stable which was cosy and great fire. Highly recommend!

User

Nice lunch in the restaurant at the rear of the Inn in a lovely calm atmosphere, a great retreat from the crowds outside for the 1940s weekend. I can recommend the goats cheese starter with beetroot. Staff efficient and friendly

User

We went there for a drink and something to eat. Nice beer, nice food but a tad expensive. Very friendly staff but I think we picked a quiet night as we were the only two left at 10pm.

User

The Hotel and grounds where lovely, clean and the staff excellent.

We chose the beef Sunday dinner !!!!!!

The beef was undercooked (it just needed a vet) to bring it back to life !!!!!

Asked the staff to take away and give it a bit more time cooking time but it returned the same.

Mashed potato was a tea spoon amount !!!!

Had the dessert, and the custard was like water !!!!!

Wouldn't eat there again, maybe this is a chef trying to make a point but the food wasn't.

User

Stayed for one night in July found the staff amazingly good and the breakfast was probably the best I have ever had

If I am ever in the area again this will be my first choice and thanks to all the staff for being just brilliant
