Staff lovely but overall the hotel is very shabby could do with a complete overall
Had a lovely stay at the windermere rooms were very clean and tidy food was delicious and staff very friendly and helpful looking forward to our next visit
Rooms look nothing like the pictures very old and dated and not clean. Spiders in our bathroom aswell. Do not stay here waste of money.
The hotel is in a great location next to Orrest Head viewpoint offering fantastic views of the Lake District. Its a 2 minute walk from Windermere train station and a 30 minute walk to the Bowness-on-Windermere by the Lake.
The room looked recently refurbished and clean, with a comfy sized bed, decent storage space, and suprised us with a fantastic morning view from the bay window overlooking the Lake District.
They offered us a good quality buffet breakfast with white or brown toast, selection of cereals, juices, sausages, eggs, scrambled eggs, hash browns, beans and bacon.
I feel this hotel preys on the constant turnover of tourists, it doesnt have to try to get people in with the hotel name & grand exterior however step through the front door & it's falling apart. Barman was pleasant and the ethnic staff were fairly helpful but the English receptionist was a misery who had clearly worked there too long & was probably fed up with complaints day in day out. Couldnt check out till she arrived at 8am! Room was shabby worn out , shower was pitiful and the bed mattress wobbled as you sat on it. Clearly aimed at the oldies who expect nothing more than a bed and a hot meal. Breakfast was OK but tiny plate & yes I was charged £8 for parking for the night. Glad I was only there one night & not on vacation.
Shearings group hotel. Excellent value and great food and staff.
Pleasant staff, food OK. It's one of those fairly big old places,a bit tired and heavily dependent on coach tours especially shearings who own the place but don't let that put you off. If the price is right and you are not expecting the Ritz it's quite satisfactory. Close to the station (not noisy) and the town.
Good food and friendly staff. However the plumbing in our room needed an overhaul. The hot tap in the sink spluttered. The hot tap in the bath took a minute or two before any water appeared. The shower fitting was loose. The toilet didn't flush properly on arrival. The bathroom door didn't shut properly. Going from the lift to our room meant negotiating a tricky and quite dangerous corner on the stairs.
Beautiful. Service was impeccable! Location, Location, Location.
