Excellent hotel, the reception, room, bar, breakfast room all very clean. The room was very good, good size, tea & coffee facilities, shower was great and a comfy bed - didn't hear any noise from anywhere else so thought the hotel was pretty empty; went to breakfast and find out the hotel was full! Breakfast was good but very busy. Location of hotel for the town centre was excellent, 5min walk, £3.00 in a taxi back. Would definitely recommend.

Stayed here before great location. We had a meal at the hotel, cook complained that his boss hadn't made clear the prices of the meals my husband had steak which was cooked to order but had to remind the waitress about his chips :( we asked the waitress what wine did they had to be told, well we have red wine and white wine, asked what dessert do you have, to be told no desserts. Shame. Just need to sort this out. But the breakfast was great and would stay again . Reception staff were very friendly to .

User

Friendly staff, room was nice, clean , enough room for us both to get ready without getting in each other's way. We didn't make breakfast unfortunately. If we come to Halifax again would stay here.

Free drink when I arrived was a nice touch. Rooms are good size with everything needed. Bar is good, food is excellent and great value. Great value place to stay, recommended.

Can not complain enjoyed our stay ...complementary drink on arrival, clean, lovely breakfast, receptionist was really lovely and helpful...was a last minute booking and for what we paid £37 we wasn't disapointed

We booked a Groupon deal with dinner and breakfast included. The room was very good and we were impressed with it. However the dinner advertised turned out to be a meat only e.g. chicken, fish etc. If you wanted vegetables, potatoes etc you had to pay extra. This was not communicated at check-in and when we queried this in the restaurant the staff showed no customer service etiquette or training. We were told the hotel and restaurant were separate yet 2 members if staff from the hotel were working in the restaurant during our stay.

Breakfast was adequate at best with very cheap options and mildly offensive signs saying to not waste the food.

Overall room great but other amenities very poor. I would suggest staying here only on a room only basis

Very clean and spacious rooms although mattress was probably past its best. The room needed a blind in the bathroom as bath/shower next to window overlooking main road. Ran out of food at breakfast, no bacon, sausage, egg or juice with over 20mins of breakfast time left, it isn't the paying customers fault if you are busy, you know how many people are staying the day before so prepare kitchen better. All staff were really nice and friendly, shame the bar wasn't open

Stayed here a couple of times, nice rooms, pity the lift was out of order this time and the mattress in our room was lumpy. My only real bugbear though is the same cheap nasty sausages at breakfast, like soggy sawdust in the centre.

I walked into the room and thought how light and airy it was. Everything was looking good until i went Four in a Bed mode. Along the bottom of the skirting boards was thick dust. More under the bed. In the bathroom the light over the mirror was caked. Using the facilities water was very slow to drain from the shower and sink suggesting clogged pipework.

Another downer was I like to book places with a bar as advertised here. If you got one please open it. No good to people if it shut over a weekend. And if you are thinking of going bear in mind the restuarant is also part time. However decent quality food on offer I must say.

So on the whole you pays your money and the prices they charge make the shortcomings more than bearable. Just one other thing. If two of you are staying more than one night take some hangers with you. Our wardrobe only had four in it.

The hotel looked good but room was cold when we first got there , the heating didn't come on until a bit later . Evening meal was lovely but just missing some accompaniments... vegetables with my meal or garlic bread or something with a piece of lasagne . I could only get cold water out of the shower the next morning and only got half a bath full of water before that turned cold .

Hotel was basic but clean, all was well until we were locked out at 22:15. Notice on the door said the door would be locked between 23:00 and 07:00. We had not been told about the door code on checkin. When we eventually was let in by another guest, we went to get a night cap. Bar closes at 22:30, but it was before this. Rude staff eventually agreed to serve me when I pointed out it was only 22:20. At breakfast there was 1 communal t spoon for the whole restaurant! Soup spoons for serial.....staff were nice but really? Won’t be returning, manners cost nothing.....

Yet another week of checking in to find pubic hair and blood on my sheets.

Complain and they just say we sort it at shift swap. Just to blag you to get away and do nothing about it.

Complain to management and they don't bother to reply to you!

Well what can I say !! Came here a s part of a coach trip weekend . Room basic but clean and comfy, had everything we needed . Comfy bed , slept lovely.

Evening meal was not the best ! Beef was fatty and not very nice ! Vegetables were of different levels of cooked and the portion sizes varied from diner to diner ! One of our guests actually appeared to have child portion compared to the other plates lol. When it came to dessert they actually ran out ! Didn’t have the decency to come

And tell us just ignored us !

Very bad customer service from the restaurant staff !! Overall the staff appeared to be young and inexperienced. Very disappointing shan’t be returning.

We have been regular visitor to the Wool merchant hotel and I was shocked to see the drastic changes and not for the better. No restaurant, no lift, bar not open on a weekends. The room was not that clean and there was a horrible smell from the bathroom. The towels were small and rough, no toiletries as was, no glasses. However there was tea/ coffee but no kettle lol. Would I recommend NO!!!!!

My wife and I stayed here 4th and 5th Feb and arrived at 7pm. Staff very friendly and the bar and reception area is very very nice BUT it is a shame the rest of the hotel isn't up to the same standards. The room we were allocated was very basic but sufficient to our needs. There is no iron or ironing board or iron in the rooms like stated and the one provided isn't up to much. The furniture needs updating and the mattress was very springy. We went to unpack and found a dirty plate with a mouldy lemon in the dressing table draw. So then went to use the wardrobes draw to find 2 full packs of pasta and then checking the bedside table draws we found 2 dirty lunch boxes. After advising the member of staff who could apologies enough we were upgraded to a suit and the draws were all checked. So we went to finish getting ready and went into the bathroom to find a number of short curly hair on the floor (wouldn't want to guess what they were). We didn't complain about this straight away as we were already running late due to moving rooms. We came in just after 12 and went to bed but again the mattress was not great and not only could you hear the strings but feel them as well. We could sleep due to this but also the room above had music blasting until 2.30. I did try to ring down to reception but the phone didn't wrk and it was plugged in. Breakfast was very nice and the chief was very friendly and could have offered to cook us anything else. The bathroom was cleaned after advising the reception and I was assured the people above had checked out. This hotel has massive amounts of potential and like I say it is just a shames the rooms and beds are not up to the same quality as the bar and reception area and unfortunately we would not be looking to stay here again.

It's a s#@t tip. No lift, restaurant closed, damp on Windows, 3 requests for a kettle despite having the coffee, tea bags & cups, bar closed when I came back at 11pm! Manager not interested so stay well clear!
