We are so lucky to be a part of the vibrant stretch that is New Road. You might have noticed our neighbor, the beautiful Brighton Unitarian Church is surrounded by scaffolding. This is because of repairs which have begun on the Grade II listed building due to rainwater seeping behind the stucco frontage, threatening the beautiful Doric columns.
However, unfortunately they have had some bad news. The structural experts repairing the church have discovered that the pediment -... the triangular section at the top of the columns - is in an advanced state of collapse. This discovery means they must urgently raise an extra ยฃ71,000 to complete the work.

Wonderful, intimate venue - full of character!
Went to see Shirley Valentine and have to say Jodie Prenger was truly amazing. How on earth did she remember all those lines. Brilliant show. First time of visiting the Theatre Royal and loved. Staff were very friendly and went out of their way to accommodate a lady who sat in front of us who had had a leg operation by bringing a stool to rest her leg on. Well done.
The Wedding Singer was fabulous! Absolutely loved it. My husband moaned about the leg space but I didn't mind (we were in the second circle). My advice if you are tall sit in the stalls. Also if anyone from the Theatre Royal reads this, it was incredibly hot - sweaty hot - please sort out some air con. It slightly affected the enjoyment of the second half of the show.
Summer Holiday...absolutely fantastic, Ray Quinn was so great, loved it
Saw La Cage Aux Folles yesterday. Fantastic show for yet a third time and at a different venue as well. Never been to the Theatre Royal before - lovely building and staff very friendly and helpful. Having travelled from the south east of Kent it finished our day in Brighton off with a wonderful experience.
My first visit to the theatre - what a lovely place. Saw La Cage aux Folles which was superb. Have booked tickets for a number of other shows/plays in the next few months. Only complaint is about the booking site which sometimes allows you to select the midweek matinee concession ticket type and go right through to payment before it tells you you are not eligible for that ticket - with no reason why. Very annoying to have to go back and start again with a different ticket type.
I love the Theatre Royal Brighton. It's not large and grand like some of the London theatres but small intimate even dare I say it cosy. You get a good view regardless of where you sit with sufficient leg room for all but the very Lankiest.
And it's got a great bar; The Colonnade; right next door.
I love love love my home town Theatre Royal the best xx
Great staff farah and Andy went above and beyond to make our anniversary so special. Thank you so much.
Finally got to see Ken Dodd last night and the comedy began before the curtain went up with a steward informing a young woman that she couldn't climb over the back row to get to her seat because this was a theatre, not a football stadium. Fantastic. 89 and a half year old Sir Ken only did 5 hours but it was a joy from beginning to end, apart from the cruise ship quality support acts. I'd rather have all Ken with an hour breather between sets but he's the king of comedy so I'm sure he knows best. Thanks very much for a tatifilarious evening. My chuckle muscles are still recovering..
What a lovely theatre, staff, booking process was very easy. Just one word of warning if its your first time there. The front entrance is not the wooden doors that are kept locked. Them doors and the front foyer is separated by a bar. Its not easy to identify where the foyer is. Other then that a very good show. Joe Mcelderry was excellent m
Went to see Jane Eyre on Sat night and it was stunning! The script was very true to Bronte's novel but the set design and staging was electrifying. Cast kept us riveted the whole time. The only negatives were theater was hot inside and for a 3 hr show, seats were a bit hard.
Saturday 15th July, watching All or Nothing the musical....superb show, had to come to Brighton to see it, home of the Mods..BUT I must echo many previous comments regarding the building, beautiful in itself but come on guys, sort the temperatures out...too hot to be comfortable...some more fans or air con is a must....
This review is solely on venue and not the show. I would give the show 5 stars as it was amazing!!! Costumes, dancing, comedy, singing - all fab!!! So what if Alvin had a northern accent, so what if it was different to original production that's called creativity!!!
The venue however was way too hot and uncomfortable. This was a shame given how much character the theatre has as an 'old school' unmodernised theatre. However pretty sure the installation of proper air conditioning would not affect this character. One fan for the whole of the royal circle does not an air conditioner make.
Saw Shirley Valentine, the actress was very good, it's a one woman show, so no-one else in it at all. Dragged on a bit, and not as entertaining or funny as the original film in my opinion.
Saw La Cage last night upstairs in the Royal Circle. It was extremely hot and uncomfortable at times despite thankfully not being sunny outside! My advice would be take a fan especially if upstairs & wear as little as possible! It's a shame really as the performance was fantastic and this building a treasure. I would think twice about booking upstairs during the warmer months.
Went to see this show La Cage Aux Folles it was great.
However I cannot say this about the theatre. It was unbelievably to hot!
Do NOT go to the place in the summer as its ridiculous!
I've been trying for over a week to speak to someone in management about my complaint - who is the director of this theatre? I literally get a different person telling me the same thing after spending ยฃ140 on tickets I could not or had no use for?
Despite three messages to ask why as an ATG member I had not received my latest brochure for priority bookings and promised that customer relations would be in touch - nothing! The priority tickets for shows I wanted to see have now sold out and also most of the decent seats at full price - the theatre appear to be blaming ATG but no one seems to care or try to rectify this. I still have not received latest brochure and was told something have gone awry. Please get your act together we love coming to the theatre and are regular customers but your customer relations and communication leave a nasty taste in our mouths.
