What a absolutely beautiful theatre. It was a privilege to be in such surroundings. We came to see Tartuffe which was excellent. The staff were very conscientious too. Would lobe to come back again one day
We went to see Frozen 2nd Night, we were blown away by the quality of acting all 3 main actors were outstanding, highly recommend this play, very dark subject, and some of the language might offend some people, but not out of context, and our audience gave it a standing ovation. Brilliant
Was little bit worried about this one I dragged my husband actually not worried but intrigued about
It but I adore Damien Lewis and Sophia Okonedo so thought right oh must be good. Wow wasn't disappointed very heart wrenching and funny actually hilarious at points really really enjoyed it fab night out
Very good..Jason Watkins actor from Trollied was brilliant, Good play
The trip to the theatre last night was a superb experience. The Goat is a dark, disturbing, funny, challenging play and thoroughly worth seeing. We had seen some lukewarm reviews early in the run, so weren't sure what to expect. We laughed, gasped, cried and were absolutely blown away by the acting. I have been thinking about it ever since, and mulling over the themes that came up. The theatre is a favourite, and we loved that you could be up in the circle and still see very clearly the wonderful performances. Damian Lewis and Sophie Okonedo are great talents.
The play was brilliant. Bit of a thinker and not for the soft hearted. I, of course only wanted to go and see it because I think the main stars, Damien and Sophie are amazing actors and they would make a difficult subject matter easy to digest which they did.
I want particularly impressed with the performance by Archie, the son. He claimed his place on stage alongside such brilliant talent. Would recommend this play to everyone. Well worth it.
The theatre is brilliant as always.
The play Queen Anne by the RSC was incredible , the acting was superb & the satirical humour of the comedy songs was just appropriate for the era it was set in! A true gem of a show & hope that those who see this gem of a show love it as much as we did! A must see show to catch if you can...trueky brilliant! Many thanks for a superb evening!
The acting was remarkable even though the content was disturbing, well done Suranne Jones and the rest ! Frozen NOT the Disney one
The Goat @ Theatre Royal Haymarket
by Edward Albee, revival directed by Ian Rickson. This dark piece of theatre has you laughing awkwardly and wondering were it is going and then it goes there! If you want some light and entertaining then this isn't for you, but if you want to be challenged, made to feel uncomfortable and stretched the The Goat will hit the spot. Great performances from Damien Lewis (yes he can do it on the stage) and Sophie Okonedo as they move from the banal to the extreme in the 115 minute production. They are well supported by Jason Hughes (Ross) & Archie Madekwe (Billy the son)
if you like the theatre that makes you think the unthinkable then go see this production
I loved it Jason Watkins so amazing and sad what a performance from him best ever Saron jons amazing to vary good stage and soona so good at acting 10 out of 10
Frozen was truly thought provoking and the acting was so powerful.
This is a superb play with many excellent performances especially the three leading ladies. However there seemed to me to be a scene missing of the triumphant Anne in glory to finish rather than Sarah at the end and I'm sorry but although he is an excellent actor to have a black guy playing Churchill was all wrong. I know we're not supposed to see colour but we do and we all know what he looked like . At that time colour mattered and its part of history how they were abused - this can't be ignored either.
The Goat! Great set! Great ensemble of actors, couldn't fault the acting. The lighting was a bit dark, I could see where the the artistic interpretation was going, but I'm a fan of actually seeing the actors faces, not having to squint through the show, to make out the expressions. The direction was a bit stilted, and a bit more use of the vast set would have been great. Overall the best show I have seen this season.
Saw "Queen Anne" and liked the play as it charts the power struggle of the two women and their individual development beautifully. The RSC shone as usual with their acting, singing and lovely costumes, always a pleasure to see.
The theatre itself was pleasant to look at, elegant but not garish, very helpful and well organised staff, facilities close at hand and spotless and a small bar in the Royal Circle. Could have a few more seats/tables to put a glass down plus a little more decoration as rather stark next to the dark elegant mirrored corridor.
Seats upholstered but small and very upright, had to roll up scarf to support lower back.
Nice little Theatre..synonymous with the style of most London Theatres however the staff were so 'smiley', courteous and helpful. I took a coughing fit shortly before the end of the play and I couldn't fault the assistance I received from the older lady who was in charge that night...wonderful.
The theatre was as I remembered and certainly not full in Royal circle but comfortable seating.
The play 'The Goat' had a somewhat weird story to tell & not one we particularly enjoyed. Sophie Okonedo was excellent, Damien Lewis good though should know that his voice does not always reach upper levels of theatre - strained to hear his dialogue till half an hour into production. Some comic moments but all in all weird. Having to sit for 150 minutes without interval but hard going too though kept one into the atmosphere.
Watching Frozen - not the kids story - sooooo unoriginal - boring script - 2nd thing I’ve ever walked out of in my life! No relation to the write up - what a waste of time!
Very disappointed - a long, long queue at the box office to pick up the tickets and that is why the performance started 30 min late. Secondly, Damien Lewis had been replaced by a different actor; thirdly, the storyline is boring and the performance not powerful and intense enough; and finally, the seats in the gallery were SO uncomfortable that we chose to leave before the end of the first act.
This play was thoroughly disappointing on every level; in a nutshell, the story could be told in 20 minutes and I have no idea how this was stretched for almost two hours. The talents of Damian and Sophie were totally wasted on this atrocity of a play and it is a real credit to them thar they could keep it going for so long. We are regular theatre goers and didn't find this funny, sharp or challenging in the slightest. Repetitive and dull would be a more accurate description.
