Bricks set up ready for an Intensive Interaction speech therapy session this morning. Child-led interaction is useful for those children who are more resistant to adult directed activities.
Introduce a motivating activity (like the bricks) allow the child to play with them, slowly begin to play alongside and copy what they are doing. Over time, extend what they are doing or attempt to gently join their play e.g add a brick to their tower.

After our OT team meeting last night we finished off by playing a new game that addresses self-regulation and executive functioning skills. We love testing out new games together to bounce ideas off each other as to how best to incorporate them in therapy.

This monthā€™s equipment focus is the LYCRA CHAIR BAND.
Does your child fidget and struggle to sit still when needing to do table top activities? Do they appear to be in and out of their chair, seeking movement opportunities to the extent that it interferes with their activity participation?
Then a Lycra Chair Band may be the solution! ... This simple product is made of light, stretchy lycra material making it more durable than elastic therabands. Itā€™s low maintenance as you can pop it in the wash if it needs a clean and its compact size makes it easy to transport between the school and home setting. . . šŸ“Ø Send us a message if you are interested in getting your hands on one.

Bookings for our March parent workshop are now open and this is one not to be missed!
It will be run by one of our specialist Occupational Therapists and we will be looking at how we can support our children to adjust their level of alertness, consider how they display their emotions through their behaviour, and attain their goals in a socially appropriate way.

A thought weā€™d like to share as we reflect on #childrensmentalhealthweek .
Happiness doesnā€™t always come in the form of a grand gesture or a big event. Happiness lives in the smallest, most simplest moments of life and we must remember to appreciate them too. šŸ˜ŠšŸŒ·

Itā€™s Childrenā€™s Mental Health Week and it has been great to see so many people and companies raising awareness of the importance of supporting children and young peopleā€™s mental health, as well as hearing stories from our clients about the fun activities some local schools have done to explore what it means to FIND YOUR BRAVE.
Life often throws challenges our way. Bravery isnā€™t about coping alone or holding things in. Itā€™s about finding positive ways to deal with things that ...might be difficult, overcoming physical and mental challenges, and looking after yourself. And we are here to help you at Therapy4kids!
We have a passionate and dedicated team of Clinical Psychologists, Educational Psychologists and a Drama Therapist. For more information or to speak to someone in our team, donā€™t hesitate to get in touch! šŸ“ž020 8605 2050 šŸ“§info@therapy4kids.co.uk

Meet ā€˜Rainbowā€™, our very own Worry Monster. His job is to eat your worries and troubles so you can let them go!
The Worry Monster is a friendly-looking soft toy with a zipped mouth. The idea is that your child can write down or draw their worry and put it in the monsterā€™s mouth for him to swallow it, helping the child get rid of their worry.
For parents, carers, teachers, therapists it gives the opportunity to take a peek at what might be worrying the child and gain insight into their concerns.

Bubble breathing is a great way to support children when they feel anxious or need to calm themselves: Before blowing a bubble take a slow, deep breath to make a big bubble, and you have to blow the bubble really slowly or it will pop! This slow in and exhaling can be very calming. So let's practice: Take a slow, deep breath in, hold it for a second, and then slowly blow some bubbles. Why not add an element of fun by catching or popping the bubbles! #childrensmentalhealthweek @_place2be #findyourbrave

In the theme of this yearā€™s #ChildrensMentalHealthWeek, our book recommendation this month is BE BRAVE! By Dr Sharie Coombes. This activity book is a great resource for parents, caregivers, teachers and therapists in supporting children in understanding and overcoming worries. The fun activities build resilience, increase inner calm and courage, improve understanding of emotions and encourage a positive sense of the childā€™s capacity to be brave.

ā€ŖThis yearā€™s theme for Childrenā€™s Mental Health Week (CMHW) is ā€œFind Your Braveā€. Bravery comes in all shapes and sizes and is different for everyone. Bravery can be sharing your worries, asking for help, trying something new or pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone. Finding your brave can build confidence and self-esteem, and make you feel good about yourself. We all have times when we need to find our brave. Here are some simple ways in which you can FIND YOUR BRAVE.ā€¬

This week is Childrenā€™s Mental Health week, and this yearā€™s theme is FIND YOUR BRAVE!
1 in 8 children and young people have a diagnosable mental health condition, and 56% of children say they worry ā€˜all the timeā€™ about something.
Weā€™re supporting @_place2be this week to help raise awareness of children and young peopleā€™s mental health.
