Breaking News for Reading
The Government has said today Saturday every park will remain open During Covid19,but are asking not to drive there.

A Homeless man in Reading town center said to me i am ill,i have Covid19 so I called 999 and a team from Polaris Medical from Reading turned to help him. You could see this homeless person was ill by his face. God be with him and thank you. What I have just wrote is the truth how many more homeless in the Reading area have covid19 they need to keep away from people or they could spread it. It is so sad to see so many homeless on the streets of Reading at this time, was i told the government with aid from the local council would home them. God be with each and every one of you and stay safe. Words and photos by Paul King

CONTACTLESS PAYMENT LIMIT RISE EXTENDED TO READING BUSES

Email Immediate: April 16 2020
...

Reading Buses have announced further measures to help limit the spread of Coronavirus and assist people to pay for their bus travel without using cash.

The company have now applied the necessary upgrades to their ticket machines so that customers can purchase a greater range of tickets for their bus travel with a contactless bank card.

The ticket machines will, from Wednesday April 15, accept contactless payments from bank cards for transactions up to £45 – more than the previous limit of £30.

Said Robert Williams, Reading Buses Chief Executive Officer: “Although it was recently announced that banks would be increasing the contactless limit to £45, not all vendors have been able to take advantage of this due to software limitations.

“We have worked with our ticket machine supplier, Ticketer, to help roll this out across our network.

“It’s yet another way that we are helping our employees and customers stay safe and healthy by limiting cash transactions on the bus.

“Of course, most of our great value fares are way below this increased amount, but we do have some cases where the relaxed rules will be of great use to customers.

“And, of course, this change is only applicable to bank cards as paying via Apple Pay or Google Pay is already more flexible.”

LEOPARD SHUTTLE TO CEASE

Email Immediate: April 17 2020
...

A shuttle bus service currently helping to link areas to a diverted service is to be temporarily suspended.

Due to Government limitations on travel, the leopard shuttle run by Reading Buses and funded by the utility company which has closed Nine Mile Ride for works, will cease after this Saturday (April 18).

The shuttle linked customers who lived along the closed section of road to the leopard. However, since the recent travel restrictions were put in place, the number of customers using the service has dwindled to practically zero.

Said Jake Osman, Reading Buses Marketing and Communications Manager: “After discussions with the utility company and Wokingham Borough Council the shuttle will finish after this Saturday.

“The cessation will be for the foreseeable future though may be reviewed once any of the current measures have been lifted. We want to thank all our customers for their understanding during this difficult time.”

GREAT WORK WOKINGHAM
Wokingham Borough Council
We’re continuing to find sources of protective personal equipment despite the difficult national situation 😷
... This week we were helped to get a good delivery of face masks – thanks to a local resident Ankur Shiv Bhandari who has returned to the PPE business to help in the crisis! 👏👏👏
These deliveries are a great and are really helpful until the Government gets its supply chains sorted 👍
We still need a huge regular supply – for example, every day, our frontline social carers across the borough use about 8,000 masks, 14,000 gloves and 7,000 aprons! 😷
Please keep contacting us at ppe.appeal@wokingham.gov.uk if you can help 😃
