One of the few family-run, independent builders merchants in East Lancashire, situated in Burnley.

History /background: Thomas Ainsworth (I) began by working as a steeplejack and selling building materials from a yard on Wood Street, Burnley in the 1950s /60s. Gradually, the demand for steeplejacking began to decline due to the closure of factories and Burnley's manufacturing industry. Building materials then became the focal point of sales. Due to popular demand, a bigger premises was needed and Thomas Ainsworth Builders Merchants was opened on the current site in Holmby Street in 1970 where it has remained ever since. Owned and managed by Thomas Ainsworth (II), employing a dedicated, experienced workforce of 7 including Thomas Ainsworth (III).
