Thomas Editing Description

Editing with clarity, simplicity and trust

I use clear and simple writing to make it easy for your customers to understand what you offer.

Copy-editing counts because you want to be noticed for your ideas, rather than errors you might make because your skills, passion and time lie in your business, not editing.

So, if you are someone who says ‘I’m no good with words’, I can enhance writing for your website, and for print.

My services include:

proofreading — proof-editing — copy-editing — copywriting — blog writing

Flexible and transparent charges. Free consultation to assess how I can help you.

Little fluffy ones? Massive mushrooms? A mackerel sky? There’s fun to be had describing clouds, but we’ve got Luke Howard to thank for a naming system that the world understands. Inspired to post this by meeting lovely Sally Vanderpump at excellent meet-up event at @thelaboratoryspa #muswellhill last week. Sally is an art jewellery designer maker and her latest collection is called ‘Head in my cloud’ – natural shapes in rings, pendants and earrings :) A derelict building in ...Tottenham bears the English Heritage blue plaque for Luke Howard, the ‘namer of clouds’. Cumulus, stratus, and cirrus were categories devised by him, as part of an elegant naming system that he created in 1803. Cumulonimbus – cumulus – heap, nimbus – rainy cloud – is my favourite; a mighty anvil threatening rain that simply rolls off the tongue.
A professional chemist and an amateur meteorologist, Howard applied the Linnean system of classifying plants and animals to the ephemeral world of clouds, using Latin to ensure it was understood everywhere.
He was a weather pioneer, and inspired the arts as well as the sciences. German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe dedicated four cloud poems to him, and Constable and Shelley were among his fans. More recently, he had a starring role in Stéphane Audeguy’s award-winning novel The Theory of Clouds.
Howard lived at 7, Bruce Grove, Tottenham, from 1852 until his death in 1864, aged 91. There is a campaign to save the once grand but now crumbling Georgian townhouse, which is Grade II listed and classed as ‘at risk’. His consistent naming system gave cloud lovers a language with which to share their passion.
Consistency really matters to me as an editor. Consistency helps us understand and trust. #clarity #simplicity #trust #editing #proofreading #proofread #editor #copywriter #copywriting #spelling #grammar #consistency #clouds #tottenhamclouds #lukehoward #cloudlovers #cloudwatchers

There are often several 'right' ways to spell or use a word. It's usually preference or fashion that's made them 'wrong'.

Scrum down with this great blog about the dangers of jargon...burn up, burn down (shake it all around ?) and don't forget to groom your backlog (baby)...

I love this! People put adjectives in a pleasing order, even if they think they're 'no good at writing' or 'rubbish at grammar' :)

It's so wrong... but so right!

Lack of clarity in a list was expensive for this dairy company. (I'm a fan of using commas where they make the meaning clear!)

Be useful, not funky! A good summary of why #contentdesign is a good thing. (Obviously, if you can work in some groovy moves, it all helps)
