This week members of Year 7 & 8 made the long journey to Gosfield School to compete in the Cut Hedges Cross Country event. A wet and windy day saw some excellent individual & team performances. Dan from Year ran exceptionally well winning the race and was supported by members of the team.
The final result was decided by girls and boys combined and Thorpe Hall finished a fantastic 3rd overall. Well done to all involved.

Year 7 had a slightly unnerving but exciting time earlier this week when they found themselves back in the Stone Age with Will Lord and his incredible 'Caveman in the Classroom' experience. 'Wood' the Caveman and 'Mema' the Cavewoman gave us a very authentic insight into prehistoric life and soon put us to work - making tools, scraping skins, sampling smoked 'mammoth' and painting tribal faces using real ochre. #stoneage #southend #bringlearningtolife

Yesterday pupils of Years 9 & 10 took part in a Modern Foreign Languages activity morning. During the morning pupils cooked a three course Spanish meal, attended a session run by the Army Intelligence Corps when they found out about careers in the Armed Forces for linguists, and also tried a mock intelligence exercise. They learnt some Salsa dancing moves (or tried too), did a language map task and also attempted self-portraits in the style of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo in an art workshop.

A fascinating trip to Stansted airport for the Y10 business studies class. We were privileged to have the Head of Customer Services and the Head of Aviation Development take time out to participate in a talk and question and answer session with us. When it comes to business that really is getting it from the horse's mouth!

On Friday, Year 3 spent the whole day well and truly immersed in Victorian England. This was thanks to a visit from ' Portals to the Past' and especially Miss Sue and Corporal Jack who took pupils back to 1888. Year 3 learnt what it was like to be at school in this era; were taught Victorian dances and parlour games; assimilated facts on the Empire and learnt about life generally in Victorian times. However the highlight was handling authentic Victorian artifacts and playing Victorian games.

Last Friday, the Research and Presentation Team picked up two whole school awards from the Mayor. The fist being an Enhanced Healthy School trophy and the second award recognised Thorpe Hall for its Drug Aware lessons. The girls were praised for their informative presentation. Well done to them and everybody else involved in PSHE.

Wonderful years 1981 to 1987. Wish I could see some of the old pictures on this page.

We have two children at Thorpe Hall and have found it to be excellent. Pupils are friendly, polite and positive in their attitude and are achieving very high standards.

Thorpe Hall Nursery has been the best start I could wish for my daughter. The facilities and enrichment activities are excellent. The staff are genuinely caring and approachable and have been very supportive as we have encountered speed bumps along our journey as parents.

Every area of my child’s development has been attended to. Not just the academic but the social, emotional and physical. We especially value activities like the forest school where play based learning comes alive. It was very impressive that Thorpe Hall remained open during the 2018 snow event. And the teachers even made a point of continuing outside play in the snow. Our expectations have been exceeded in every way.

I am one of the Old Girls who was at Thorpe Hall from 1949-1960! My only school, from the age of 4 till 15 and I can honestly say I loved every minute! Of course, it was the original school in those days, just two buildings and a workshop for Mr Norris (our darling Norm) in Thorpe Hall Avenue. We had 80 pupils then, and I can remember most of the names even now as we were a happy family under the direction and affection of Mr and Mrs Lewis, then on their retirement Mr and Mrs Ben Young. Happy Days, many congratulations on the 90th anniversary. Much love to past and present pupils and staff .

User

Both my girls were there from 4/5 years around early 80's until 11 years. Fabulous times. Brilliant school.

User

Both my children started in nursery and have continued to love and thrive with the amazing staff and facilities at the school. We visited a number of independent schools before choosing THS and we couldn’t be more happy with that decision. What we love about the school is their dedication and passion to combine learning, technology and values, all of which are taught and/or practiced in equal measure and are always of equal importance.

Best school i really like and my son he is very happy.
