Dr Karl Steptoe and I are pleased to announce we are running a spotlight workshop for leaders and coaches on the 8th of March. We have always been very cautious about the use of profiling tools and personality assessments. In our experiences they can often be used incorrectly, holding people to fixed labels of personality and not used to their full potential. There have been many occasions in which we have worked with teams who had completed assessments in the past, been enth...used by the apparent accuracy of the profile and reflected on the fact that it then was confined to a draw for the remainder of the year.
Profiles should not reduce members of your team to narrow descriptions of personality used simply to explain unhelpful behaviour but should instead create a meaningful understanding of individuals, enhance team work and highlight strengths and development opportunities. We are delighted, therefore, to have established our relationship with Mindflick Ltd and endorsement to provide training using their Spotlight Profile.
Spotlight addresses many of the challenges we have experienced when considering profiling tools. Spotlight places an importance on a research evidence base and a focus on the performance preferences of individuals, recognising an individuals' ability to demonstrate a number of behavioural styles in different situations. Karl and I are accredited Spotlight practitioners ready to deliver training, workshops and one to one sessions specifically tailored to the goals of sport and business teams.
If you are about to begin a new project, are in charge of staff training, have responsibility for a new group or are setting out to achieve a goal that requires the collaboration of a number of team members, then gaining an understanding of their key characteristics and performance preferences can provide both you and them with an important performance advantage.

Great to learn from camilla today about parental support on the youth rugby pathway.

Delivering a workshop isn’t always in a classroom, sometimes it’s straight onto the court. Lovely delivering growth mindset to NADA (Nottinghamshire athletic development academy) this week. A fantastic environment for developing young potentials.

Another fantastic evening to be working at Leicestershire CCC
Tonight’s work is all about the 5C’s embedded into fielding with u12/u13’s... once the men’s t20 has finished 🙄

Fantastic to spend the day at Wimbledon yesterday. So much Sport Psych work revolves around working at sporting events but was so enjoyable to watch two brits for fun 🎾

View from today’s office - it’s so great to be able to have an impact on youth development across 3 of the top sports academies in Leicestershire. Looking forward to the new challenges ahead

Sometimes it’s good to practice what you preach. I speak a lot around overcoming challenge and being comfortable with being uncomfortable! With that in mind I decided to give Tough Mudder a go this weekend... a fantastically muddy challenge that definitely made me uncomfortable at times - electric shocks, small tunnels, giant ice baths and more!! By far a challenge that I will be doing again and I highly recommend it to anyone!!

Tonights game Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich led to Bayern's Keeper Ulreich being described as having a 'Nightmare' but what really just happened?
Start of the second half, not much first half action and Ulreich has come out to collect the ball, a task he has done hundreds and hundreds of times before. Elite Sportsmen and Women practice and practice these scenerios and repetitive tasks so they can be executed as flawlessly as possible and to be able to multitask when needing to...o.
Most of the time we are multitasking in our minds, and when we do common activities and repetitive tasks our brains go into default mode,” We’ve all experienced those moments and for some it’s terrifying when driving on autopilot and then suddenly reaching your destination without realizing you were nearly there. For others it costs their side a goal in a champions league semi final. These episodes are referenced by a variety of names: memory lapses, brain blips, brain fog, senior moments, and in my family ”brain farts."
Many of our brain blips are caused by attention or lack thereof. Many blips occur from not really paying attention to the task at hand. So is that what's happened here?
What's happened is, Ulreich has lost focus and switched into autopilot, which therefore means he's stopped paying attention. Just like the driving example, he's reached his destination without realising and suddenly it dawns on him he can't pick it up. The end result a 'Nightmare'.
Even elite sports people experience these lapses in focus and attention and the scrutiny they get for doing so, is unforgiving. However there are ways to improve your attention and focus control.
If you're interested to learn more about how to improve in this area please get in touch.
