About Three Jolly Wheelers

The Three Jolly Wheelers in Chigwell is a country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop.

Three Jolly Wheelers Description

Built in the early 19th Century, The Three Jolly Wheelers originally relied heavily on the tourist trade. A photograph of the inn taken in 1906 shows that the inn used to hire out horses and traps - most likely used by day-trippers travelling to Epping Forest. We still welcome tourists to this day, in addition to locals looking to unwind and choose from our diverse drink and food menus.

Yes itā€™s Sunday ! Fresh and fabulous roasts alfresco or inside ?

User

We had the Sunday roast and the yummy toffe apple pudding and the rhubarb crumble. Staff were attentive without being over the top. Had a lovely Chenin blanc for Ā£13.95 and had a thoroughly good time šŸ‘šŸ˜˜

Popped in here last night on the off chance that they'd have a table, they did and it was the last table for 2. Food was great although my pate starter was a bit sparse. I would've liked a bit more bread with it or at least thicker sliced bread. Beautifully cooked salmon and tasty veg main meal though. My other half enjoyed his mushroom starter and burger and chips main meal. Job done!

I've been here a few times now to eat and drink as its local but I visited yesterday and had such a great experience .. The restaurant was warm and welcoming I was sat down straight away and offered drinks the staff were friendly and helpful.. Then I ordered my food.. WOW...The food was well presented, hot and very very yummy! complements to the chef!!! Would recommend this homely, well organised pub to anyone! I'll defiantly be back soon x

User

Great local pub with a great atmosphere, good beer and a good value for money menu recommend the ribeye and sharing platter. Will certainly come again.

User

Great food, good customer service buts its a shame they dont serve Scampi during the evening meals only during lunch time service. But all in all great atmosphere.

User

Beautiful birthday meal here tonight service was great and all the staff are so lovely we use this restaurant quite often and are always made to feel welcome

Beautiful food excellent service great atmosphere look forward to coming back

User

The food is good but the cooking takes too long & they always seem under Staffed. We have been a number of times & every experience has been a little disappointing. If you are not in a rush & donā€™t mind a long drawn out meal then itā€™s not bad.

User

Donna the waitress was lovely, very friendly and food was great but unfortunately as the Resturant filled the service got slower and slower. Donna seemed to be rushed off her feet. There need to put on more waiting staff . This would be the only reason we wouldn't return in the near future

User

We come here fairly regularly. Not for the first time a very long wait for our food and this is usually a good sign but not when it all turns up cold! Kids were kept waiting an hour and a half for their meals and salmon came so overcooked it was inedible. Friendly staff but obviously not enough of them. Really disappointing family meal.

Food was ok i won't be eating there again , after waiting for almost 15min for drinks i have decided to go to the bar and collect it myself, two barman were behind the bar Chatting so not very good impression. One of them looked at me like, yeah do my job take it to the table as I am busy chatting !

First and last time for me !

Another disappointed customer, have been before and always enjoyed the food, but hadn't been for a while so don't know if it's changed ownership. Must say very unimpressed and will probably not use it again, having arrived to a quite empty pub and shown to our table, the menu looked to have a good range to choose from, two of our group ordered the beef duo (with as much gravy as you wanted), one had the beef and mushroom pie and I chose a wagyu burger (described as the tenderest beef) when taking the order the waitress asked if we wanted any extra side dishes such as cauliflower cheese as that was one of her favourites, we ordered the cauliflower cheese and some onion rings, about 20 minutes later our food arrived minus the cauliflower cheese, when we asked where it was the waitress wasn't sure if we had ordered it, but it duly arrived. The vegetables on the beef dishes were lukewarm and there was no offer of extra gravy, the beef rib meat was very tender and tasty but slices of meat with it were overcooked and difficult to cut or chew, the burger was also very dry and tough to cut, the pie was fine, when asked by a member of staff if everything was ok, she seemed shocked that the beef was overcooked as it is "cooked medium rare" ( I wouldn't like to see what well done was like if this was medium rare) then apologised that the Wi-Fi was playing up, though what that had to do with the cooking we wasn't sure. Half way through our meal the waitress left, so when we had finished another staff member cleared the table and gave us the dessert menu, 15 minutes later no one had come back to take our order, so one of us went looking for a member of staff, there were no staff to be seen a no one behind the bar, we waited another couple of minutes then I walked round into the bar area where finally I found some staff, who wasn't sure if we had ordered or needed to order, then took our dessert order, again ww had to wait quite a while for it to come to the table, and when it did hastily asked for the bill, which arrived before the cutlery for our dessert. There seems to be no communication skills by the staff, and we wasn't the only customers that didn't seem happy with the service. I shall not be using this establishment any more.

User

we waited what seemed forever for our main meal! ļæ½The barman (not sure if he is the manager or not, he certainly seems to think he is ) is a very unlikeable character, I had a complaint & the way he dealt with it was very unprofessional ...he's put me off going in there ... Shame as I've recently moved to the area ... I will try the crooked billet next ļæ½

User

Well....where shall I start! If I could score below one I would!

We pre-booked for a father day meal. We arrived and waited over 30 minutes at the bar, no one saw to us.

There was a family of four who was waiting 45 minutes for a table and they had pre booked a couple of weeks ago. They left! Then another group had also pre booked and were waiting and decided to leave.

We made our choice to leave after two of the staff stated... I really wouldnā€™t bother staying! So we made our choice and asked for our refund.....during that time the staff told a family it was an hour wait for food and they decided to leave too!

What an absolute shambles! The manager should be ashamed to be managing this establishment! Vintage Inns need to seriously investigate what has gone wrong with this pub! Will never return or recommend to anyone!

We came here around April 2017 had a lovely meal, lovely staff, nice ambience all round evening but that all changed yesterday sept 3rd 2017 booked a table for a Sunday roast with my husband walked in ordered drinks before sitting for our meal, didn't have ginger ale to go with jack Daniels ok so I thought never mind I had something else, them we sat down for our meal, going to order beef roast, then the member of staff said they gave run out of roast potatoes, this is going well I thought, so she said I could have mash instead ok so I ordered that and my husband ordered something else and asked for a prawn cocktail starter, we waited and waited for what seems like ages, the staff seemed to be disinterested and chatting in corners on there phones, my husband asked what was happening with the food and about the prawn cocktail the young girl said " oh you haven't had that yet " I said no and with that I said don't worry about the starter what's happened to the dinner she just turned away and suddenly produced our dinner which I think was sitting somewhere not being dealt with,it was awful the beef was red and toug, parsnips were solid and the Yorkshire pud soggy and the cabbage was dripping in water my husbands burger was ok but when he asked for mustard the young girl just came over and plonked the jar on the table with no spoon to use so she obviously expected my husband to use his knife and fork which he was already using to eat, the overall experience was a disgrace it's like no one cared especially the staff, the chef was apologetic and was trying to make amends by offering us something else to eat and offering us 50% off the next meal but for me I just wanted to get out of there so definitely not going back such a shame

User

No real ale at all to drink.

Table booked for 1:30 Not seated until 2:30.

Food mediocre and took over 2hrs

No heating in the pub.

Just got back from the three wollys which I'm sure there's a lot more, ordered drinks at the bar told to take a seat someone will be over soon to take our order, 30 minutes later no one, must of been Stevie Wonder's shift, ordered at the bar myself. Food turns up , Stevie must also be head chef, I've never seen so much food destroyed on one plate, the only thing that wasn't destroyed was the Yorkshire which they forgot and came out five minutes after, probably the luckiest bit of food ever, because it wasn't cooked.

I visited here with my boyfriendā€™s family on a Saturday night to eat. We were told food was served until 10 when we first ordered our drinks so sat down with menus. When someone then went up to order, another member of staff told us that food wasnā€™t being served ā€œat the momentā€. We werenā€™t sure why but he basically dismissed us. My boyfriend then went up to the original employee to ask again, that employee told him that they were in fact serving food, but with a 40 minute wait. After this confusion we ordered our food, including 4 vegetable tarts from the main menu (the only vegan option listed as 2 of us are vegan). The food arrived a while later, but so far apart that me and my boyfriend had eaten ours before his parents even got theirs. Iā€™d never eaten here before but while I was eating I could have swore the tart tasted cheesy. I checked the menu over again and it definitely said vegan and didnā€™t list cheese in the description. When my boyfriendā€™s parents got their tarts I asked his mum to smell it for cheese and she agreed that it did. I then asked the waitress who said the tart DID contain cheese. I told her I was vegan and no where on the menu did it list a non-vegan tart, she went away to double check and then went to her manager. The manager came over and apologised, she told me they had a second menu that listed this particular tart, (When showing me this menu she brought out the Sunday menu. On a Saturday night...) but Iā€™d already eaten a meal that I shouldnā€™t have (and could have been allergic to for all they know) based on their menu not being specific enough. I told the manager that the menu needed to clearly state that customers should specify vegan when ordering, which she didnā€™t seem to understand as she just kept telling me it wasnā€™t my fault, which I already knew. We werenā€™t offered any type of refund until I suggested it which I also think was bad service. I wonā€™t be visiting this pub again.

Donā€™t bother service bad cos no staff food missing ingredients and some food half cooked - could of managed that at home myself lol

Christmas Day, what a disaster. Table booked for 3pm, didn't get seated till 4.30pm. Then we got cold meals and no service. Whole place was chaos and everyone was complaining. We lost Ā£150 as prepaid for the meals and worse of all lost our Christmas Day dinner. Completely ruined the day for us. Thanks :(
