Thrifty Car And Van Rental Stansted Airport

On Monday December 11th, 2017 I rented a car from Dollar/Thrifty at Stansted Airport, England. I have two complaints:

1. They would not accept that I carry third-party insurance on my American Express card, and forced me to buy their insurance. This has never happened to me with any other car-rental company.

2. When I returned the car on December 12th there was a small scrape that was they said was not there when I picked up the car. Irrespective of whether I caused that scrape (I am certain I did not), the charge applied (423 pounds sterling) was excessive. When I asked for documentation of the repair being carried out, I was told that it would not be done until they sell the car. I find it hard to believe that they will do any such repairs before selling the vehicle, and it seems clear to me that they are using these so-called repair costs as a source of revenue.

Really nice staff, very friendly and flexible, good value hire costs.

Avoid hiring from Thrifty Car Hire, I have only hired from them on two occasions, a few years ago from Glasgow Airport, when I returned the car with full tank yet they charged me again for fuel. More recently I hired a car from Stanstead, with noted/documented wheel damage, as it was raining a detailed inspection was not possible, when I returned the vehicle to Glasgow Airport they charged me for a new tyre on the same wheel. Several email requests for detailed report and contact by my Visa Credit Card Bank have resulted in no response from Thrifty.

I wish I could give this page a 10* review. Nicest people to deal with. We had to fly to London last minute due to family loss and the fact that the staff at Thrifty were so kind really helped us deal with those few days much better in a practical way. Thank you.

Good value but the £500 deposit is a stinker especially as it's a few days before you get it back

Car hire in Stansted is yet another aspect of the airport where Manchester Airports Group have completely screwed the pooch. Originally there were hire desks as you came out of arrivals, later you had to walk half a mile in front of the Radisson to find the offices. Now they've made it even worse. You have to find some totally obscure bus stop then ring for a minibus and meanwhile the entire airport has NO SIGNAGE to give you any idea what to do. At least Thrifty were very helpful and a joy to hire from. But just try finding them!! Thrifty +10, MAG -10,000.

It's great to meet so many interesting customers.
I know this is a biased view, but I have worked for one or two of our competitors and Thrifty is by far the best for customer care and service.
Oh and we have some very nice cars to.
I look forward working there for many years.

Nice quick turnaround, no waiting to drop off and pick up. Best perk is having the meet and great service with your own private minibus van

Booked a car for my sisters wedding end of May...got a free upgrade to a BMW M6 stunning car what a dream to drive...all the ladies in the office they are a bundle of joy and absolutely wonderful. Will definitely hire from them again and recommend this branch to anyone looking to have a experience of a lifetime. Well done!!!
