Through The Lens Workshops

About Through The Lens Workshops

We are a small group of dedicated, skilled photographers and we want to offer you highly professional but affordable photography tuition

Through The Lens Workshops Description

How our workshops run;
Our workshops are aimed at all levels from beginners through to experienced photographers, we will cover all aspects of digital photography explaining the fundamentals such as exposure, metering, camera settings, image composition and lens choice where required or cover more advanced techniques such as the use of filters, exposure and focus bracketing for the more experienced photographer. We will also start to cover more advanced techniques and also give tips on software for editing and how to use it.

The group size will always be kept to a manageable size to ensure that there is plenty of time to assist each participant and what stands us out from other photography workshops is that with multiple instructors, we are able to form smaller groups based on levels of experience to ensure that you receive tuition in the areas that are most beneficial to you maximising the knowledge you will take away with you.

Our workshops are planned carefully to coincide with the optimum times and conditions for the locations selected, whether this be tide state, sunset or sunrise time and position and the knowledge we use to achieve this will be passed on during the workshop.

2 of our tutors are St Johns Ambulance 1st aid at work trained and we have public liability events insurance. Please note that the insurance does not cover your camera equipment. So please be careful with your equipment, we always recommend having your equipment insured with a professional Photographic insurance company and not just covered under your home insurance.

The workshops are run by a dedicated team of friends and photographer partners who have helped run and organised some of the most popular workshops in the country that have sold out in a matter of hours. We plan for all outcomes but sometimes weather will beat us and we have to cancel. In this instance a full refund will be given if the new date that's gets arranges is not convenient.

What you will require

With all genres of photography, your equipment list can seem never ending. We don't recommend you rush out to buy all the expensive equipment, we would rather you learnt how to use what you have correctly and our workshops will make sure you can do just that. As your passion and skill set grows you, will learn exactly what bits of gear you need and save yourself wasting money on buying equipment that you don't need. We are always just a message away from offering attendees of our workshops advice on purchases they may be about to make.

The essentials bits you will need will be a DSLR Camera, spare batteries and memory cards, tripod, lens and camera bag

A few more little notes

More specific details based on the workshop style will be included within the detail of each advertised workshop date(s), this will include details of recommended equipment requirements and also details around transport, accommodation, food and drink where appropriate, however should you have a query around the workshop or equipment requirements, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will endeavour to provide a prompt response to your enquiry.

At the end of our boat's themed landscape day, the day that was suppose to be rain all day, we got spoilt by this amazing drop of sunlight at Wells Next The-sea. Then to top it off, what looked like a thousand geese flew overhead and landed on the sand.

New for 2019 is our revised format Night Sky Photography Workshops. Due to the heavy reliance on weather for this particular workshop we have decided to move at least the first part of the workshop indoors. This helps us to delivery the theory part with the use of a projector and PowerPoint presentation in more comfortable (warmer) surroundings. Providing that the weather is clear, the second part of the workshop will then move outdoors to a number of locations along the No...

New for 2019 we are running a photography competition.
The competition will run over the course of 4 weeks. There will give a deadline for you getting pictures submitted.
... This month’s competition ends at midday on Monday the 4th Feb 2019
Each month the prize will be an A3 print of the winning shot posted to you courtesy of the team at Through the Lens workshops
You can enter 3 images per month, but think quality over quantity. We like to see originality, technical ability, creativity and you just getting out there making images.
Post your entries in the comments on this post
The rules: The winner will be decided by one of the tutors choosing their favourite 3 shots. The 3 tutors vote for their favourite from that selection, the image with the most points will be the winner for that month. It won’t be the same judge each month choosing the initial 3 images to keep it mixed up.
The images must be your own and you will need to supply us a copy we can print from.
They don’t have to have been taken on one of our workshops (We will then delete that from our hard drive once you have received your prize)
Shipping is to UK postcodes only
Through the lens workshops reserve the rights to amend or change in any way needed the competition
