About Tile Hill Wood School

Tile Hill Wood School was a secondary school for girls situated in Tile Hill, southwest Coventry, England. The current headteacher is Mrs Gina O'Connor. The school has specialist Language College status. HistoryTile Hill Wood School and Language College is distinctive in two main ways: it was Coventry’s only single-sex girls’ comprehensive school and is a specialist college for languages and for vocational education. The school was the first in Coventry to be awarded ‘specialist school’ status as a Language College in 1998. Following its ‘high-performing’ award it has also gained Vocational Specialist School status in 2006. Being awarded ‘specialist school’ status brings many advantages to the school and has allowed them to develop such things as ICT resources and the school’s links with international partners. It has a strong focus on partnership, collaboration and innovation. In July 2011 the school converted to academy status. The school was last inspected by an Ofsted team in September 2014 (GOOD) and is very proud of the report it received. Full details of its content are available from the school on request. MergerThe Governing bodies of Tile Hill Wood School and Woodlands Academy are currently leading a consultation on the possible merger of both schools. Reasons cited for the merger include a decrease in pupil numbers in West Coventry, and fewer parents and pupils choosing single-sex education. If the merger is approved, boys from Woodlands Academy in year 7 and 9 will transfer to the current Tile Hill Wood site in September 2016, with the full merger for all pupils commencing on the Tile Hill Wood site in September 2017. The newly merged mixed school will be called West Coventry Academy.
