Rowan Atkinson not ‘dead’: Viral Mr. Bean hoax is spreading a real virus Rowan Atkinson, the actor who plays Mr. Bean, is not dead – but your computer might be if you clicked the fake news story about his untimely demise.
The viral hoax presents itself as a video tribute to Atkinson from “FOX BREAKING NEWS,” with his birth and alleged death dates featured next to the preview image.
Users who click the video link will be redirected to a falsified security page prompting them t...o dial a phone number, according to reports. Anyone who calls the number will be asked to provide their credit card information in order to purchase a so-called software fix, which will actually riddle the targeted computer with viruses.
The hoax video appears to have resurfaced from July of 2017, when it first sparked fears that Atkinson had died. The video caption claims Atkinson was killed in a car crash.
The fact-checking website Snopes has debunked rumours of Atkinson’s death on multiple occasions.
Online scammers frequently use celebrity rumours to target people with malicious software designed to steal their personal data, according to the anti-virus service McAfee.

🇳🇵 Nepal: The Great Plunder | 101 East
Jul 20, 2018 On the global art market, Himalayan statues of religious deities fetch millions of dollars. But to the Nepalese, they are living Gods who have been stolen from their communities.
In this exclusive Al Jazeera investigation, 101 East senior presenter and reporter Steve Chao takes viewers on a breathtaking journey across the Himalayas, to reveal how the art world’s hunger for ancient artifacts is destroying a culture centuries ...old.
As he seeks to expose the international black market in religious treasures, Chao travels across Nepal from its capital Kathmandu to remote and ancient Buddhist temples in Mustang.
Since the 1980s, authorities estimate thieves have plundered tens of thousands of Nepalese antiquities. About 80 percent of the countries religious artifacts have been stolen and sold into the $8 billion-a-year illegal black market in art.
But as 101 East discovers, Nepalese are now taking a stand and demanding a stop to the plunder of their greatest treasures. Local guide Tashi Bista says the thefts are hurting communities and their ability to worship.
"When thieves look at our centuries-old statues and deities, they see millions of dollars of profit. To us, they are living, breathing Gods," says Bista. "The thieves are destroying an ancient way of life for us."
Posing as a prospective buyer, Steve Chao goes undercover to meet black market art dealers and learn how they bribe officials to falsify papers so that they can export antiques from Nepal. After showing his undercover filming to Nepalese police, Chao helps authorities conduct a sting on some of the country’s most prominent antique dealers, leading to their arrests.
Set against a stunning natural backdrop, this is the story of how treasures from an ancient time are being stolen and sold to the highest bidder, leaving a culture in peril.

Now there is a type of scam making the rounds that is even more insidious than most. Scammers are making virtual copies of real Facebook accounts by copying the photos and info from the real account’s “Ab...out” page to the fake ones. They then send friend requests to the friends listed on the real account.
Once the scammer has most or all of the original account holder’s friends onboard, there are countless ways those friends can be scammed because, well, we tend to trust our friends, right?
One of the most common scams perpetrated after a fake account has been created and populated with your friends is messaging you asking for money to help get them through some crisis.
