Timeshare Release specialises in helping UK and European-based consumers to dispose of their unwanted timeshare, releasing them from long-term contracts and fee liabilities.
With offices throughout the UK and Europe, Timeshare Release has now helped more than 3, 200 people to get out of their timeshare contracts, saving a combined total in excess of £60m in future timeshare fees.
The concept of timeshare was very appealing during the sales boom of the 1980 /1990s and many consumers were attracted by the promise of a lifetime of affordable holidays at exotic resorts with flexible exchange options.
There are still an estimated 1. 3m timeshare owners living in Europe, of which around 650, 000 live in the UK, and many owners enjoyed their timeshare experiences in the early years. However, due to mis-representation of timeshare, the lack of regulation, the collapse of the resale market, unfair exchange practices and the greed of the timeshare companies, it has all too often become an unwanted and expensive burden.
The two main issues are the ever-increasing maintenance /management fees that the timeshare companies charge and the fact that timeshare contracts often run for very long periods – or even “in perpetuity”. This means that the owners (and their descendants) are often locked in to contracts for generations to come and they are liable to pay ongoing fees, which are relentlessly raised at the discretion of the timeshare companies, for the full contract term.
Many owners find that the “token” maintenance fees that they paid in the early days of ownership have now multiplied out of control – and they face paying tens or even hundreds of thousands of ever-increasing future fees over the term of the contract.
In recent years, more and more timeshare owners have been realising that their timeshare (which was often sold as a “wise investment”), is now an expensive millstone which they are unable to sell, or even give away.

28th October 2016: Mr & Mrs S, who own timeshare at Monte Anfi, Gran Canaria, wrote...
"At the time of purchasing our timeshare we were led to believe that it would be a good future investment and something we could hand down to our children.
... We were told about the management fees but were told that everything would be done to keep these down. This was not the case as they go up every year.
We were also given the impression that at some future time we would be able to sell out timeshare on possibly back to Anfi.
This was not so and it seems we would have it forever, so even when we have paid the finance off we would be stuck with the maintenance fee. At the time of purchase we felt under a bit of pressure as we were confronted by three reps."
Sadly, this is an all too familiar story and we hear much the same from scores of other disillusioned owners, week in week out.
The good news is that, following the breakthrough case in early 2015, where the Spanish Supreme Court found Anfi guilty of mis-selling on several counts and awarded a full refund of €40,000 to the customer, there have been an ever-increasing number of complaints and claims against Anfi, which have set a number of important legal precedents that affect the whole timeshare industry.

Money lenders Shawbrook Bank , who partner with Club La Costa among others, have been left with no option but to set aside an initial £9,000,000 in regards to increasing numbers of mis-sold loans for Timeshare purchases.
... Shawbrook has publicly admitted that loans were granted without suitable affordability checks, meaning that customers were often hastily granted loans to pay for Timeshares with little or no realistic chance of being able to afford the associated repayments and maintenance fees.
It is alleged that these high-interest loans were often classed as "Home Improvements" and customers were told that they would be able to easily arrange less expensive finance on their return home - but this was very often not the case.
