About Toby Carvery

Here at Toby Carvery Buckhurst Hill, we believe there's only one way to do our beloved British roast – and that's properly.

Toby Carvery Description

When it comes to roast dinners, we really know our stuff. Every day our chefs lay on a feast of tender, hand-carved meats with all the trimmings – including towering Yorkshire puds, golden roasties with all those lovely little crunchy bits, and plenty of freshly prepared veg, all crowned with proper gravy. So it's no wonder we're Essex's favourite carvery restaurant.

Went with my family including 2 vegetarians and a vegan; the waitress provided us with allergy advice, was helpful and friendly- will definitely return! The food was lovely and filling as a bonus!

User

Waitress was very attentive, Aircon was hugely welcome and the meet and roasties were cooked to perfection. Very busy but regularly stocked up to ensure it was fresh! Even played out the front for a while with the children as

It was so mild and peaceful x

I must start by complementing Laura, Anna and Emine. They never cease to amaze us everytime we visit toby buckhurst hill and nothing is too much bother. However the sweet and custard portions have somewhat done a U-turn in standards while steadily raising in prices too. What used to be great value (bottomless custard) has changed to a beggars thimble, I feel soŕry for the girls having to hand out terrible portion sizes and forever making excuses about them. (C'mon toby sort this out I'm not asking for much).

User

Good friendly atmosphere. Staff were excellent. Our waitress went above and beyond to accommodate my family. I always feel welcome with a small child. Food was delicious and hot. My waitress timed my vegetarian dish perfectly so that it was brought out same time my family were sitting with their carvery which was very nice of her. I wish I could remember her name as she deserves so much credit for her service yesterday.

User

Came in today, there were 3 of us and we hadn’t booked but only had to wait 15 minutes for a table, the host was very friendly as were the two bar staffs, my waitress, Laura was very helpful, the food was brilliant, haven’t had a Carvery for a long time and forgot how good it was, will definitely be back, five stars!

User

Service was good ,but need more space in bar area , waiting for restaurant like a cattle market on a Sunday , food was good nice friendly waitress , price good would recommend booking for a Sunday roast , would go again.

User

Great food but really busy at 2pm. Had to wait 40 min after time I booked

User

Not at all happy with one of the Managers here, very rude, ignorant, miserable & I'll mannered, this is NOT THE FIRST TIME we have experienced similar problems with this very same person, her name is Daniella, it was my Mum's birthday so we were very disappointed in our dining experience, travelled from Rainham Essex so a fair way, spent £60 odd, will be visiting The Cocked Hat next time.

User

Decent portion of beef but food was Lukewarm didnt send it back as i didnt want it microwaved.. jam & coconut sponge was disappointing & the custard had a skin on it.. again it was lukewarm.

User

Come in with 5 colleague's for breakfast. Coffee was warm not hot. Some people wanted tea but was not working. They boiled a kettle then put the water in a coffee jug and left it on the side. So the tea was made with water that had long gone off the boil. There were no staff to be seen. The food appeared to have been cooked very early and was sitting under lights so was very dry. The toilets had no soap. All in all very disappointed. Wasn't even busy. a few builders were arriving as we was leaving their food must have been well dried out. Nothing had been replaced.

User

Disappointed. First visit to a Toby. Reception welcome was sadly lacking . Two guys ran in ahead of us and didn't stop at reception. Got their breakfast and ran out 5 mins later without paying . I did alert reception.. .who couldn't be bothered to speak to the guys whilst they were scoffing their food. The food was lukewarm . No eggs until requested and you could locate the chef (took 10 mins) . No bread. Chef came out and put out fresh bread with no food gloves on and her hands were really dirty. Toaster took 4 run throughs to get any colour on toast so it became rock hard. Potato hash was burnt to a crisp and mostly inedible. NOT impressed I'm afraid.Pointless complaining to reception as he just wasnt interested Won't be going back there.

User

We booked a table for a large family breakfast, and on arrival had to ask were to sit and , just find a big enough table , so not a good start , then the drink system, had to ask for tea bags, the coffee had also gone, again was like it was an issue for stuff , then trying to get started for breakfast was another level , at least 4 people asked for bread to toast so they brought out 1 loaf for approx 20 people , no bacon , no sausages, no tomatoes, had to call in to the kitchen for someone to come to the counter , only for the chef to come out and shout you will have to wait , im here by myself , which then started an argument but again a massive que not because busy but because no food, at this point and a few words back and forth , we demanded our money back, the whole time this was going on , what looked like 2 managers was sitting in the front bar .. avoid at all cost , i didnt want to go here as last time was the same , but family just said give another try , prob just an off day, ... mind made up now . That was the last visit ...

User

Long wait for a table. (Which is fine but annoying when you’ve been underquoted). Went up for food with no que (yay) to find dried out meat and a gathering of flies on the veg. The carver left and tried to bring back an under cooked turkey which his kitchen manager tried to stop him to do. My partners plate was forgotten about whilst other people were served which was annoying whilst I was waiting with the batch of flies. Sat down to lukewarm dinner and a table without cutlery. Probably the first time in my life I didn’t eat an entire roast dinner won’t be coming back to Buckhurst Hill.

User

Have been coming here for a couple of years now and must say it’s gone very down hill. There are too many people in here and the line for food is becoming ridiculous. Have been seated on the edges of the line several times and in the last 2 Sunday’s I have had gravy spilt

On me, my friends daughter had her drink knocked over into her dinner and I have had people brushing off me whilst trying to eat. It’s become uncomfortable and extremely claustrophobic. We always book our table and always still have to wait. The poor waiting staff are under so much pressure! And as for trying to get a drink at the bar! Forget It. Have also noticed new staff at the carvery, the portions of meat are getting smaller and I asked for a larger dinner only to be given the same amount of meat, the children’s portions are also becoming a joke. So disappointed. Am now looking for somewhere else to go as I can only imagine trying to get out if there was an emergency. Not good.

User

First of all we was a party of 5 who pre booked a table, when we got there we was seated at a table after 45 minutes that could just about fit 3 people on it! After speaking to a member of staff they agreed to move us but we had to wait another half hour! When we was finally seated and got our food we found that there was all food on the floor and all over the counter the food wasn’t nice at all! Our waitress was never to be seen and the service was very very slow, when asked to speak to the manager she was very rude and had a attitude !! She said there was nothing she could do and said she found it hard to believe how I was the only who complained!!!! When my desert arrived with the manager still stood there I noticed the my spoon was rotten dirty! When I pointed it out to her she tried telling me it was water marks. This place and the customer service is a disgrace !!

User

Booked a 6:00pm table. We were told that they are running behind and our table wont be avaliable for another 30mins. After waiting half an hour in the packed bar with nowhere to stand let alone sit down, we got to our table to discover that the queue for the carvery was stretching across the entire restaurant (an estimated hour wait) so we left and resorted to ordering a takeaway. #wasteoftime #everytimewecome
