About Toby Carvery

Here at Toby Carvery Almondsbury, we believe there's only one way to do our beloved British roast – and that's properly.

Toby Carvery Description

When it comes to roast dinners, we really know our stuff. Every day our chefs lay on a feast of tender, hand-carved meats with all the trimmings – including towering Yorkshire puds, golden roasties with all those lovely little crunchy bits, and plenty of freshly prepared veg, all crowned with proper gravy. So it's no wonder we're Bristol's favourite carvery restaurant.

Great value, better than usual choice of vegetables and the meat was melt in the mouth.

User

Fantastic Carvery, an absolutely fabulous waitress and words for your choice of desserts I cannot find other than delicious 😋 5⭐️

User

Haven’t had food in here for ages but thought we would try it on the Sunday food was nice staff great all in all it’s a nice place to eat

User

Had my first ever Toby Carvery yesterday. Lovely surroundings, service was good, food was nice. I wasn't expecting the price to rise on Easter Monday & I had a birthday voucher for a free sundae but the ice cream machine was broken. I'd probably be a fairly regular customer to Toby Carvery if there was a restaurant closer to home. Probably wouldn't travel there again though.

User

Brought the mother in law as she has never been before she throughly enjoyed it. My husband and I visit regularly but we were a little disappointed when we ordered the new yorkie wraps only to be told they weren’t available. We had the Carvery as always was delicious but once we had sat down a different waitress came over and asked if we still wanted the wraps obviously we didn’t but maybe better communication between the kitchen and the waitresses..... Have to say was very disappointed about the wraps

We have lived in this area for two years now and often go to the breakfast here we have noticed over this time that there is always something wrong from the toaster not even being on or breakfast items missing coffee cold, I could go on but you get the picture I do find most of the staff very friendly and the atmosphere good in the main but on occasions like the weekend it disapoints me that I have wasted my money on quite frankly a horrible breakfast once again no butter portions just margarine and a small dish with what we were meant to believe was butter and was clearly not I have worked In catering all of my adult life some of which as a manager for Compass when my partner asked the girl for butter she said that's butter when he said no its margarine she said no he was wrong it's butter!!! Don't lie!!! Just tell the truth the delivery didn't turn up or it was out of stock we all know these issues but to treat your customers like idiots who can't tell the difference is wrong l,and in the age where people might be allergic to it is very wrong margarine makes me physically sick and ruined my breakfast and as for the lies it puts me off every going back! There are lots of local establishments near by I will use in future.

User

We go here with some regularity and it's normally good service, but yesterday was really bad. We got there about 7pm, took quite a while to be served for drinks. When we got to the carvery station, the man cutting the meat was so rude. There was no gravy left, so I asked a member of staff if there was any left. She asked the man carving the meat to get some more to which he replied 'well I'll do it in a bit'. He then got the meat thermometer out and started to test all the meat, ignoring me, stood there with my meal. My brother also ordered some pigs in blankets which didn't come until everyone had finished their meal. Really bad service last night, not impressed at all.

User

Sunday lunch out for the first time in ages! Even though we had to eat in bar as was told there was over and hour and a half wait, Carvery was spot on, unfortunetly i decided i wanted a dessert, well i wasnt impressed at all, both me and my partner ordered the eton mess, i had 3 small pieces of meringue and 2 strawberries and no passionfruit, it was 98% cream, not happy. Also my youngest had the popping candy angel delight, with no popping candy. Will come back for carvery but deffinetly no dessert again. X

User

Disappointed- waitress asked had we booked and then have to stand and wait (I had to sit down as I can't stand for any length of time) while waitress pours drinks other than tea or coffee and you have to carry this plus your cutlery to your table (although you have to find this yourself). No cereal unless you pay extra. No croissants, pastries etc. Dried up bacon. Scrambled egg was salty. Only good thing was it was all hot! Go to a restaurant near a premier inn-never had a bad breakfast.

User

Well we have been many times previously and always had a plesent meal, however Our experience on Sunday was not great, the service as always was great and the waitress was very friendly and accommodating however the food on this occasion really let it down. There was 7 of us and a number of us including myself had beef, we all found this very stringy and tough, we also found the gammon very fatty, my son only had gammon and to be honest about half of it was fat. The roast potatos that are normally nice and crispy were more like boiled potato's and the coiflower cheese was severely lacking any kind of sauce. I am never one to complain or write reviews to be honest but I am not sure what has happened to this Toby (maybe a new chef) as all previous visits have been at least 4 stars. Maybe time to try somewhere different.

User

We arrived about 5pm on Sunday afternoon and for parked and seated straight away , the waitress was lovely and served us efficiently , when I was queuing for my dinner , I noticed lots of thick cobwebs from the picture to the ceiling , the wooden type of dado rail was thick with dust , the chef cutting the meat, forehead was dripping with sweat( which was understandable ) but he kept using his hands to wipe it then carry on carving the meats ..... The serving area was filthy with food , could of done with a wipe down every now and then .... My son is at uni and wanted a Toby as we go to one at home but this was not a

Nice Toby and won't be going back :(

User

No atmosphere, roasting hot in the room unlike the food, extremely slow service (not the waitresses fault at all) due to not enough staff for the amount of parties and covers and we all felt poor customer service at the bar and rudeness from the Management. Had a work Xmas meal here and we all left as soon as we could. Have been coming to this carvery for the best part of 16 yrs, throughout a few refurbs and many Managers. £35 discount off the bill for the cold food, very slow service and rudeness of staff was not adequate given the party had spent over £200 including drinks. Poor.

User

Best place to go if you like to be ignored by the bar staff. Kept us waiting for ages and when our turn to be served she decided to serve a 'regular' before us. DEFINITELY wont be returning as all their staff are grumpy and have no idea about customer care or service.

User

Went there for staff Christmas party and it was rubbish. Had to wait a long time for starter, despite being pre ordered. Got it and soup wasnt even heated up! Took ages to clear away so main delayed again. Not much of an apology and no atmosphere in pub..no Christmas music etc. Would be really easy to improve it. Wont be going again.

User

OMG the staff in here are down right rude! I asked for a knife and folk once I had fetched my carvery from the counter and 3 members of staff refused to provide them until they had seen proof of purchase! 1. My husband wasn't given a receipt 2. I handed over the carvery card to the chef upon being served 3. The fact that I had the plate full of food in my hand should be sufficient evidence that I have purchased a meal 4. My food was getting cold whilst trying to chase down some cutlery!Very disappointed!

User

Nice food but it was a terrible atmosphere, staff didn't once crack a smile and were very rude when I asked if my 11month old and 2 year old could eat off my plate as they wouldn't eat a full meal. My four year old barely managed a full plate. As soon as we walked in literally didn't even get a hello, just met by a rude woman who seemed to be in management. Remember having a bad experience here years ago, definitely hasn't changed.

User

Me and my husband stopped off here for breakfast on our way shopping in Bristol, food was lovely but my husband when to put gravy on his Yorkshire pudding and actually blistered his hand on the ladle! When he told the lady he was told 'that's what the napkins are for! Seriously? I thought napkins were to wipe your face with maybe or am I being crazy?! When we told a manager he said there is signs up! The sign read 'caution hot surface' not caution hot utensils' ! There was not consideration that my husband had scauled his hand no first aid provided and one of the chefs even laughed at him from the kitchen when he saw it happen! Eventually after further complaints my husband was asked to fill out an accident form! Still no apologies just no care given at all! appauling customer service and care.

My suggestion would be use all plastic utensils not metal and plastic combined and maybe future customers will not scald themselves or worse a child!! Or play a clear sign telling customers to use a napkins when handling the utensils!

User

Extremely rude staff. I had to get up and find a waiter so we could order food and drink, in which I got a vile look off someone and said my waiter would be over... no one turned up so had to ask again with anther rude glare at me!

I then asked if I could use a voucher on my phone to pay, she took my phone and went of the page to look to see if it was sent to me and started scrolling though my messages... rather than just saying they can't accept that voucher..!

Looking at the other comments on here with how rude the staff are it's clearly a big issue, would be good if the staff could learn some customer service or just get rid of them and replace them with staff that are actually hard working and can crack a smile.

User

Air conditioning was broke once again so was too hot to enjoy food! We would of stayed for dessert but due to heat had to get out. Service was rude no help at all, trying to get the bill was a mission as she wanted to split it when we was going to do it ourselves! The chef carving was a miserable guy and due to how busy it was he clearly needed a hand but no one did! The best bit of this place was the bar staff was helpful and served quickly
