Torquay United F.C Description

Torquay United Football Club, nicknamed the Gulls, are an English association football club based in the tourist resort town of Torquay, Devon. They played in the Conference National in 2008–09, but were promoted to Football League Two after a 2–0 win over Cambridge United on 17 May 2009. The return to the The Football League ended a two-year absence after 82 successive seasons. The club plays in a distinctive yellow kit.

Torquay United pride themselves on remaining debt-free despite the debacle of the ITV Digital collapse. 'Penny-wise and pound-foolish' was an oft-repeated observation of things at Plainmoor, particularly under the chairmanship of Mike Bateson who was widely criticised by fans and media for lack of investment and for shutting down the reserve and youth teams at the club to save money when in fact they were making money from selling a couple of players a year.
