Is sports massage a luxury or a necessity when training for a Marathon?
Some runners consider sports massage a luxury, but if youŌĆÖve committed yourself and trained for all those hours for your big event you wonŌĆÖt want an injury to force you to pull out.
Book in for your promotional offer up at K2, Crawley for a pre and post event sports massage during April and May. Two 30 min massages for ┬Ż50 or two 60 min massages for ┬Ż80.
... The benefits of having regular massage during your training are:
Ō£ģ Improved flexibility Ō£ģ Scar tissue breakdown - an injury heals with collagen fibres (scar tissue) these fibres align haphazardly and a good massage therapist can feel for these areas and break down the scar tissue improving healing time of an injury and reducing further dysfunction of the surrounding muscle tissue Ō£ģ Pain relief - a rub down even a deep intense one feels great. Massage after exercise reduces the intensity of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) Ō£ģ Muscle relaxation - massage pressure to muscles and other tissues softens fascia tissue and makes clenched muscles relax Ō£ģ Removes adhesions between fascia and muscles. Great news for runners, who rely on flexible muscles for pain-free peak performance. Ō£ģ Other research suggests that massage improves immune function and reduces inflammation
Massage can help you to know your body and how it feels when everything is in balance. You (and your therapist) are more likely to notice an issue before it turns into something more serious.
Self massage via foam rollers or a tennis ball between massage treatments can ease muscle tension, just keep pressure light before a big race or training run.

Queen Alexandra requested that the distance was adjusted so the royal household could see the race from Windsor Castle. Prior to this - from 1896 to 1908 marathons of approximately 25 miles were held.

What is cupping? The suction and negative pressure provided by cupping can loosen muscles, encourage blood flow, and sedate the nervous system. Cupping is used to relieve back and neck pains, stiff muscles, anxiety, fatigue, migraines, rheumatism, and even cellulite.
Hong is in Tuesday and Thursday mornings for Chinese medicine, acupuncture and cupping.
