About Toughsheet Building Products

Toughsheet Building Products are market leaders in creating usable products from 100% recycled materials. It is our absolute goal to manufacture a product

Toughsheet Building Products Description

Frank Mercer & Sons & Toughsheet Building Products are committed to sustainable environmental improvement. We have been recycling plastic for more than 30 years.
It has been our objective to use more and more packaging waste that would otherwise go to land fill sites. All of our products contain high levels of recycled materials that are used in builders products that ensure that this material is taken out of the waste stream completely.
Our commitment to recycling has been supported by
our £4 million investment in state of the art machinery and technology, together with quality sampling and continual testing.
The whole of our process is controlled by ISO 9001 /2008 together with BBA and BSI continual auditing of our methods and in-house testing facility. We were the first company to make DPM from 100% recycled material to British Board of Agrement accreditation standard and PIFA standard. The government report by WRAP shows that our work produces material of superior quality to that made from virgin materials in the same field. The full report is available from www. wrap.org. uk.
We have received both local and national recognition for our work in environmental achievements. In particular we work very closely with Valpak, the biggest national compliance scheme for Packaging Waste in the UK. More information about Valpak is available on www. valpak. co. uk.
Valpak and Toughsheet are working very hard with a number of large supermarket chains to make better sorting facilities and therefore better use of their waste products. We have invested in technology that produces the majority of our products without the use of cardboard cores. This reduces packaging waste for our customers and reduces cost in their obligation to recycle.
It doesn't just stop there; we recycle waste oil, wood, paper and water, the usual by-product of any manufacturing facility. Our open-house policy allows any of our customers and suppliers access to our site to view the operation at first hand.

As featured in the Bolton News; https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/…/17277 137.andy-burnham-to…/
MAYOR of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham is set to visit a Bolton business next week to learn more about recycling.
... He will be shown around the Toughsheet Recycling Centre in Westhoughton to see how the facility recycles plastics into the products they then sell on.
The centre at Chequerbent Works has been recycling plastic since 1968, with around 15,500 tonnes being recycled each year.
The products they sell are for use by builders and include membrane, film and refuse sacks.
Toughsheet Building Products say that they “are committed to sustainable environmental improvement”. The company says that their objective is to use large amounts of packaging waste that would otherwise go to landfill sites.
All the products that they sell contain a huge amount of recycled materials that are used in builders’ products, ensuring the material is taken out of the waste stream completely. Doug Mercer, who has been managing director for 15 years, said: “With what’s going on in the news at the minute, I think he just wanted to come and see our centre and how we recycle.
“It’s going it give him a better idea of what’s involved and how we do things. I think it will help it become better known that lots of things can be recycled.
“I’m quite looking forward to meeting him. We’ll discuss general politics and of course more that can be done.”
Mr Burnham is already part of a campaign to ditch single-use plastics in Greater Manchester by 2020, as well achieving carbon neutrality in the region by 2040.
Toughsheet constantly works on improving its efficiency, having invested millions in state of the art machinery and technology to help improve the process.
People are increasingly being urged to recycle as the amount of plastic in the ocean increases.
Earlier this year, an investigation found that hundreds of bottles of water across different brands and countries contained an average of 10 tiny particles of plastic.
