A lot of you found the last ‘Jo the physio' vid really helpful, so here’s Jo with another diagnose and self treat, this time for lower back pain! Enjoy! :)

Exercise needn’t conjure up images of military-style boot camp. Walking for example is a great exercise in its own right and we could all probably engage in this simple activity more often! The IDD Therapy Disc Clinics see people with unresolved back pain. There are many exercises for the body and the Bird-Dog or ‘Superman’ (which sounds more impressive) is a great exercise. Begin in an all fours position with your hands under your shoulders and your knees bent. Your spine s...hould be in a neutral position ie with a slight curve. Keep your back still and then extend one leg backwards whilst simultaneously extending the opposite arm forwards until both the arm and leg are fully extended. When you push back with your leg, imagine pushing the heel back and this will stop your spine from over-arching. Hold for three to five seconds, then swap arms and legs, ie do the opposite. Repeat five times, rest and repeat for three sets.

Here at Treeline Therapy Centre we offer small, friendly and adaptable pilates classes to run alongside our back pain and physiotherapy clinics. You will need to be able to teach people with a variety of musculoskeletal conditions and joint pains. You will also need a minimum qualification of Mat level 2.
