The #westcountry Waterpark is slowly gathering some great achievements in some races Last week member Michael Gniewek achieved 2nd place in the Poland Tri Tour In Szczecin in a time of 4hrs 28

User

Becky Commins of Monmouth Tri Club came a brilliant 9th position in Estonia ‘s last week end , which was Olympic distance European age group representing GB . She achieved this because she trained without a wetsuit at the westcountrywaterpark as on the day although a river swim , suits were not allowed and many got caught out Which is why we emphasise training without wet suits Due to the hot weather, there has been many events (swimming section) declaring no suits , so don’t get caught out, train without suits

We went today for the first time it was great. Everyone is so friendly and Mike is fab. It was our first time in open water and he really put us at ease and gave us a few tips to help get us started. Id highly recommend this place and will definitely be going back soon!

User

We popped in today for our first swim. The facilities are rustic and the lake is fabulous. Mike was a delight to meet and really helpful. Definitely will be back for another swim, feel amazing afterwards.

User

Visited here whilst in the area for work and squeezed in a quick evening swim. Great facilities, beautiful lake, and great swimming. MadMike is lovely and unforgettable:) Highly recommended and can't wait to return some day.

User

Thank you to the lady who answered my questions when I came to the lake on Saturday. She was very friendly and helpful. I even ended up going in for a swim. I will definitely be back

User

Nice lake to swim in. Friendly people £6

Nell and I started a new sport this evening….Triathlon! Mike gave us a great welcome to the centre I last visited 28 years ago to go windsurfing. I remembered it as very muddy but that has now settled! Indeed the water is quite clear and full of fish! The half hour swim was fresh at first in our 'shorties' but lovely with the sea gulls and cormorants. We have a long way to go on our 'transitions' but went for a cycle with views of the Severn estuary as we went down and back up the escarpment. To finish we ran round the lake……. And all ten minutes from home!

User

My first open water swim and Mad Mike was so helpful at giving me tips before and after the swim.

User

My favourite place to open water swim, I have visited other lakes and this one is the most welcoming, and encouraging mike is full of humour and great advise. The course is clearly marked and big enough to spread everybody out, Bonus being the bike transition area and run route around the lake.

Finished off by a perfect cup of coffee.

User

Mike is great and makes everyone feel welcome! He even gave us a bike loop to follow too! Love this place!

User

I've been swimming here for over a year now. Mike is very supportive & encouraging. Taking his time to find out what you are training for, & then always there for helpful tips.

The atmosphere is very friendly, with some phenomenal swimmers, who are happy to chat away about their experiences.

There is a great loop for cycling & runs around the lake to practice transitions & bricks.

I love the awesome bacon rolls & cup of tea served at the weekends. Yummy.

User

I have been swimming here 2-3 times a week for the past year. Mike & Josie are always welcoming. The basic setup makes for a convenient, hassle free, safe environment to get your open water swim training in. I love how changeable weather makes certain areas of the lake choppier/tougher, it's great triathlon practice.

User

I came here for my second ever open water wetsuit swim, having freaked a little during my first elsewhere. Mike gave me advice and encouragement and I had a great swim. The lake is perfectly positioned near the M4/M5 interchange and so is the perfect place to stop when doing a long motorway journey to the south-west or back. Nothing wakes you from motorway monotony like a spot of cool water!

User

Had my first swim at the lake today and thoroughly enjoyed it. A friendly welcome and ideal facilities for training...I'll be back

User

Great swim this morning loved it,highly revommended.definately be returning

User

Great place for open water swimming and having the transition option is fab too I’ll defiantly be back soon ! Thanks Mike

User

First time swim at Triathlon training centre Bristol, thought I would take my boys along 11yr old and 9yr old, not sure how I would fit in a swim of my own !! enter Mad Mike he watched over my lads while I swam, by the time I got back they had swam in the lake themselves with a watchful eye over them, both were full of smiles, we all then hooked up and swam together, there was an on site café which we made use of and was very friendly. The Hot chocolate and oat flaps were just what we needed, we would all recomend the Centre. Many thanks Mad Mike, the Lewis Family.

User

Came here for my first ever open water swim. Staff were great, really helpful and gave me plenty of advice. Nice lake to swim in and to top it off we had a bacon buttie and a cup of tea after. 5 stars.

User

love this lake...ever hopeful that one day there might be hot showers and changing area, but you need to roll with the eccentric charm of the place!! But, big bonus for me, its a safe place to swim on your own as you can (just) stand all the way round (I'm 5ft6) and I started open water swimming here.

User

Great place for open water swimming. Friendly, reasonably priced and always welcoming. If only the water was a little clearer.
