The Cuban cigar brand of El Rey Del Mundo was believed to be first created in 1848 by German businessman Emilio Ohmstedt who also created Sanch Panza cigars. After Ohmstedt’s death the Cuban cigar company was passed on to Antonio Allones sometime around 1882. El Rey Del Mundo, or ‘King of the World’ in Spanish, was at one time the most expensive and prestigious cigar brand in the world. Under Allones’ command it reached the height of its prestige. Allones’ company was later bought out by the Diaz Hermanos y Cia venture owned by Candido Vega Diaz who then later renamed themselves the Rey Del Mundo Cigar Co. to highlight their most famous asset, although other brands such as Sancho Panza, Rafael González, and Don Cándido were also produced by them.
