One of our favourite parts of the job is meeting our OAP patients! 😍 Is there anything more lovely than an elderly dog who loves a cuddle?! ♥️
So we were over the moon when we got to meet this gorgeous girly earlier this month. This is Summer the Lhasa Apso and she’s just celebrated her 17th BIRTHDAY! 😱 Not that you would’ve ever known - she looks incredible for her age, doesn’t she?! And she was pottering around so much that we could barely get a photo! 😂 What a trooper!
Do you have a senior canine at home like Summer? Show us your photos below so we can celebrate our ‘golden oldies’! ♥️

Happy Fathers Day to all the fur baby dads out there! Have a wonderful day! 💘

It can get a bit boring lying around in a hospital bed when you’ve had an operation... And it’s no different for our animal counterparts! 😴
So here is adorable Basil demonstrating one of the fun ways we keep recovering patients entertained. This is just a “towel burrito” with bits of chicken hidden in each layer and as you can see, he loved it! 😻🍗
Basil spent the day with us last week after fracturing one of his canine teeth - ouch! He was feeling much happier once it was removed under anaesthetic and it certainly didn’t affect his appetite! 😂 Well done Basil, you’re such a sweetheart!

Meet gorgeous Jet! 😍 Jet stopped by for neutering the other day and he was breaking hearts left, right and centre!
He was such a brave lad and had a great afternoon cuddling the nurses and learning how to catch treats with his mouth! 😂 He popped in for a check up with the nurse this evening and was already back to his normal self! ♥️ Well done, Jet!
Can anyone correctly guess the two breeds little Jet is crossed with? 😁

Did you know that every bunny needs some bun to love?! 🐰♥️🐰
Rabbits are extremely social animals and without company they can become very depressed 😔
All rabbits should have at least one companion and a neutered male and female will generally get on best, especially if they’re siblings. But any combination of bunnies can get on well together if introduced correctly! Most rescue centres will help with the ‘bonding’ process if you decide to adopt! 😍
... We also always advise that rabbits are neutered to avoid unwanted pregnancies. We’ve lost count of how many baby bunnies we’ve seen that have been incorrectly sexed by pet shops! 🤦‍♀️ So ALWAYS neuter your rabbits, even if you think you have a same sex pairing... Peter may very well be a Petra! 😱
Neutering your bunnies reduces behavioural issues and aggression, as well as reducing the risk of cancer - win, win! If you want to book in your buns for neutering just give us a call on 0113 2505522! ☎️

It's the time of year where we're starting to see young wildlife out and about and one of the most common calls we get is regarding baby birds. It can be a worrying sight to see a fledgling by itself but more often than not a parent will be nearby!
Here's a very useful guide by the RSPCA on what to do if you spot a baby bird unattended 👍 If in doubt, give us a call and we can advise you on what to do!

It’s Rabbit Awareness Week and this year’s campaign is focusing on vaccinating rabbits against Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Disease 2 (RVHD2). We routinely vaccinate our dogs and cats but rabbits are often overlooked, even though they’re also at risk from many deadly diseases!
RVHD2 is a new strain of RVHD1 with the first reported case in 2015. As with RVHD1, the virus causes internal bleeding and the prognosis is usually poor once a rabbit has contracted it 😔
Vaccinating your ...bunnies prevents them from catching this deadly disease! We also vaccinate against RVHD1 and Myxomatosis - both of which are fatal diseases too. Give us a call on 0113 2505522 if you want to get your bunny booked in for their jabs! 🐰♥️
We’ll be posting throughout the week with our top tips for keeping rabbits happy!
📸 Have you got any bunnies at home? We’d love to see your photos and we’ll share them on our page this week! 🐇

⚠️ Warning - contains pictures of surgery! ⚠️
Time for another #SurgerySunday post, this time featuring beautiful Milo!
Poor Milo first came into us a month ago when he became lame on one of his hind legs which seemed very sore. Upon x-raying the leg, we discovered he had fractured his femoral head - this is the 'ball' in the ball and socket joint of the hip. No wonder poor Milo was struggling to walk on that leg!
... The only way to fix Milo's leg was to perform a femoral head ostectomy. Once Milo was under anaesthetic, our vet Vicky opened up his leg and removed the head of the femur, leaving an empty socket. The muscles of the leg then hold the femur in place and over time scar tissue will form to create a new joint.
Milo recovered incredibly well from his operation and was purring away in a cosy bed within an hour of coming off the table! We've seen him for several check-ups since and he's doing so well, is starting to use his leg and seems very comfortable! 🙂 We're so proud of you, Milo - you're a very special cat!

Is it just us or did we get the Chihuahua to blanket ratio spot on yesterday? Six blankets to one Chihuahua seems to be the magic number! 😂
These cuties are Diva and Peanut who were both visiting us for neutering yesterday. They both got spoilt rotten with lots of cuddles all day long! 😍 Feel better soon, little ones!

We hope you all have a weekend as relaxing as Wilbur’s! Have you ever seen anything so precious?! 😴😍

Here’s the latest applicant for our Canine Ambulance Driver position. Meet Sydney! He’s got slightly longer legs than our last candidate but you should’ve seen the destruction he caused trying to parallel park! 😱 Sorry Sydney, it’s a no from us but you’re always welcome back for cuddles instead! 😂
Sydney was visiting us for neutering today and was such a brave lad - isn’t he handsome?! 😍 We can’t wait to see you again at your post-op check little man, rest up at home! ♥️

⚠️ FOUND CAT IN PUDSEY ⚠️
We have had a cat brought into us and are urgently seeking her owner as she is very poorly. The cat is a black, short haired female, roughly middle aged and was found outside Spring Valley School on Swinnow Lane, she has no collar or microchip. She had been hanging around in this area for at least a couple of days when she was brought into us.
She is comfortable and getting lots of TLC but isn't well so we need to find her owner to discuss her welfar...e.
Could she be your cat or do you know anyone missing a black cat locally? We're withholding a photo at present so we can identify an owner with photo ID of her due to not having a chip.
Our phone lines are open between 8.30am-7pm for calls - thank you for sharing in advance.

This gorgeous little man is Humphrey! Humphrey was visiting us today for a bile acid test so we could check his liver function.
The test involves us taking two blood samples - one on an empty stomach and another two hours after food has been eaten. However, poor Humphrey was feeling a bit scared in his kennel and wouldn’t eat his lunch! 😭 So our nurses Nicola and Amy took him outside for a sunny lunch date in our yard 😉 Humphrey munched some hot dogs while getting lots of cu...ddles and was much happier out there, as you can see in the video! 🌭😍 We could then successfully obtain a second blood sample two hours later.
If your pet is a worrier you needn’t panic about leaving them with us. Our nursing team will always do everything they can to make them feel reassured and comfortable ♥️ Well done Humphrey, we can’t wait to cuddle you again soon!

Our patient of the day was breaking hearts left, right and centre today! This is adorable Wilson and he stopped by for a dental procedure.
Wilson was a tad nervous about his visit so he turned up with a letter of support from one of his little friends, Liam! How cute is that?! 😍 Wilson’s little mate requested we leave his letter next to him while he went to sleep so he wouldn’t be so scared - he felt much braver once he saw it! 😁
Once Wilson was sound asleep under anaestheti...c, our vet Lorraine got to work on his teeth. There was a considerable amount of tartar and dental disease so Wilson had 13 extractions in the end, including that nasty looking canine! 😱 Lorraine scaled and polished the rest of his gnashers and his mouth looked so much better afterwards! 👍
We think Wilson must have felt better too because he chowed down on not one, or two, but THREE lunches this afternoon! 😂 Well done Wilson for being so brave! You’re a superstar! 🌟

A sad day for #TeamTweed today as we’re waving goodbye to RVN Katie! 😭
Many of you will have met Katie as she is truly part of the furniture here after joining us six years ago! She joined us as a Student Veterinary Nurse in 2013 and successfully completed her training in 2017. Since then Katie has developed a keen interest in theatre work and assists with many of our orthopaedic surgeries, as well as performing the occasional minor surgery herself!
This has led to her workin...g towards her Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (AVN) and the reason she is leaving us! 😭 Katie is hoping to further her surgery and anaesthesia skills with our friends at Abbey House Vets - our loss is their gain! 😔
Katie, you have been a pleasure to work with and we’re going to miss your crazy ways! 💔 We’re wishing you all the luck in the world for the next step of your nursing career! 😍
