If you were in Newcastle city centre on Saturday, you might have spotted an unusual assortment of uniforms by Old Eldon Square!
Firefighter Natalie Barnes was there as part of the Fusiliers Band, playing clarinet in full fire kit to show the variety of the band members' civilian roles.
⚠️PRODUCT RECALL ⚠️
These SMOK and Innokin E-Cigarettes sold by Argos are being recalled due to their risk of overheating which could result in a fire or injury. For more information on what to do if you have the affected product, visit: https://www.electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk/ …/smok-and-innoki…/
If you're going on holiday soon and are thinking of using the extension lead "hack" we'd like to remind you of the dangers of overloading sockets.
These extension leads have a limit of 13 amps. The voltage is often lower in other countries and there's a risk of overloading the extension which could cause a fire.
Our Prevention and Education Policy and Strategy Manager Mark explains more in this video.

Make sure your little ones know which number to call in an emergency. Also ensure that they know their address and explain the importance of only calling 999 in a real emergency. #ChildSafetyWeek
Critical Incident is a new documentary series starting tomorrow, at 9.15 am on BBC One. It's tough subject matter - attacks on emergency service workers. On Friday June 14th, the series will feature an attack on our crews on Bonfire Night 2017. It includes an interview with Newcastle Central Watch Manager Mark Barton, who was at the incident.
Any attack on emergency service personnel is wholly unacceptable. We hope by drawing further national attention to this issue, will help to ensure that anyone who witnesses such attacks or has any information will do the right thing and report it to Northumbria Police
Peek - ing Ducks! Last night, crews from Newcastle Central Fire Station released 4 ducklings who were stuck in a drain at Newcastle's Civic Centre car park. They were released and taken to a nearby lake. All 4 were uninjured and in quacking shape. #notjustfires
Got a spare 5 minutes today?
Give your dishwasher a once-over and ensure that there are no leaks. Make sure you check for cracks in the detergent drawer, as these could allow water into the electrics.

Crews from Newcastle Central and Gosforth alongside Service officers have today paid their respects at retired firefighter Keith Marshall's funeral service.
Keith joined Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service in 1976, serving at West Road Fire Station in Newcastle with the white watch until his retirement in July 2005.
Our thoughts are with Keith's family.

Which one would you prefer on #nationalfishandchipday?
We attend multiple chip pan fires every week. Why not ditch yours and switch to oven chips or a temperature-controlled deep fat fryer? Better yet, treat yourself to a takeaway. It's Friday after all! #staysafe
After visiting Service Headquarters yesterday, Jonny Bugg Deputy Director of Fire, Strategy and Reform at the Home Office, went to meet our swift water rescue team. Our crews from Byker Community Fire Station took him on a tour of the Tyne on our fire boat.

Hair straighteners – can get as hot as your iron and can still burn 15 minutes after they are switched off. Keep straighteners out of reach when you’re using them. Put them in a heat-proof pouch or on a high shelf to cool.
