For two decades now, and with over 100 subscribing members, the TVLRUG has worked with the line's franchise holder (currently Northern trains Ltd. ), the Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership, Parish and County Councils and many other stakeholders, to improve services and facilities for passengers.

During that time more stops have appeared, major interchanges at Prudhoe and Hexham have been constructed and better station facilities provided, together with a much greater service frequency secured.
