As the UAE continues to evolve as a global hub, there are increasing opportunities for UK companies and professionals to contribute to the next stage of growth in the Emirates. The Embassy in London aims to assist in strengthening the UAE-UK relationship by supporting these commercial opportunities. The Embassy also collaborates with the UK to deepen social and cultural ties, and to boost technology and innovation. The UAE is a significant funder of UK research and development projects – particularly around environmental technologies and clean energy – while several UK universities have a presence in the UAE. To promote peace and tolerance globally, the UK and UAE work closely together on several counterterrorism and defence initiatives. The Armed Forces of the UAE and the UK have strong and longstanding ties, working in partnership to preserve security and stability in the Arabian Gulf. In 1996, the UK and UAE signed a Defence Cooperation Accord, which sets out arrangements for security cooperation.
