Ucl Centre For Access To Justice Description

At the heart of pro bono activities at UCL is the Centre for Access to Justice (CAJ). The CAJ combines unique advantages of clinical legal education with the provision of pro bono legal advice to vulnerable communities, predominantly in the areas of social welfare, employment and education law.

The central mission of the Centre is to promote access to justice. This is achieved through four core objectives:

1) To provide legal assistance to members of the local community who would otherwise be unable to afford it
2) To engender an awareness of social justice issues in our students
3) To implement innovative teaching and learning methods
4) To develop our students’ ethical and professional awareness

Our objectives are achieved through projects which focus on:

1) Provision of Free Legal Advice and Representation
2) Clinical Legal Education
3) Student Engagement & Community Service
4) Research
5) Partnerships with External Organisations
