Ucl Cssa - Chinese Students & Scholars Association Description

The University College London Union Chinese Students and Scholars Association (UCLU CSSA)
is a non-profit and nonpolitical student organisation.

With over 1000 new students enrolling in UCL from Mainland China annually, UCLU CSSA is the largest CSSA among all universities in Greater London. We are also the largest international student society at UCL.

Our missions are to serve the needs of the Chinese students and scholars in UCL, and to provide opportunities and benefits for all students interested in Chinese culture by encouraging cultural exchange among students of all backgrounds.

To achieve our mission, we regularly organise social activities, such as trips and parties, conduct information seminars on a variety of topics, including Mandarin class and career development, and promote Chinese culture with various arts, music, and sports groups. Besides these activities, we also organise several large-scale events, including our Pre-departure Conference, annual Mandarin Debate Competition, Chinese New Year Gala and Chinese Lantern Festival.

"We are always around", UCLCSSA members and volunteers have spent countless hours and effort to deliver the "heath pack" filled with love from the Chinese Embassy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to nearly all of Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan students at UCL who are still in the UK. The same thing is also happening for every other university and CSSA groups around the world.
We hope everyone is safe during this difficult time, UCLCSSA will continue to provide support and help to you.

As it is known from credit sources, the situation of the current crisis in Wuhan has reached a critical point where all help is needed. In China, the Wuhan Coronavirus has caused more than 9000 confirmed cases, 15000 suspected cases, and 200 deaths countrywide until 12am on 31th January.
The novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), cause of severe acute respiratory infections (SARI), has infected thousands of people in China and cases have also been ident...ified in other countries including but not limited to Japan, South Korea, the US AND THE UK.
At this moment, the City of Wuhan has implemented a city-wide transport shut down. Due to the cityŌĆÖs virus containment measure, its large population, and ChinaŌĆÖs vast and complex demographics, the medical consumables and suppliers are in high demand, and many medical staff are now carrying tasks with insufficient or no protection.
Donate any amount through the link below would help us to gather necessary medical equipments for Wuhan.

In the name of fairness, impartiality and rationality, we strongly protest against the pass on this proposal due to its biased and politically charged nature.
The proposalŌĆÖs standpoint, articulation, and nature are inherently biased towards the protesters: Firstly, the background context provided by the proposal has ignored the vast damage that the ŌĆśpeaceŌĆÖ protester have done to HK and others (e.g. the lawmaker who was recently injured by an attempted assassination, the atta...cks on mainlanders, the injures in the police force, the damages to the public infrastructure and basic social orders...), instead, it only focused on those claimed mischiefs of the police officers who worked to contain the violence;
Secondly, they wrongly assumed that they have the right to represent the opinions of all the HK citizens and the HK students in UCL.
Thirdly, the proposal presupposes that they are the side of the victim. In their articulation of this matter, any information that shows other lights than theirs would be condemned and not taken rationally and reasonably.
Fourthly, this proposal appealed towards their so-called democracy; however, behind their anti-social order and government scheme, they have deprived others democratic right to express their opinions, their basic rights to security, their natural right to have a different political ideology.
Thus, their claim towards democracy is to be suspected and discussed in the first place. There are other problems and controversy on this proposal, and they will not be presented here in this very short letter.
