A huge thanks to Nathaniel and Adam who have been a great help at this yearโ€™s science festival over the last three days. Weโ€™ve been talking about our research into the Mesolithic-Neolithic transition in Cumbria, speaking to over 1000 people across the 3 days.
Nathaniel using microscopes and a snap game, has been explaining the science behind studying pollen and spores. This can help us understand past environments.
I have been running a session called Crash and Bang, where K...ids and adults alike got to smash up sweets. This was to demonstrate how different sweets represented different rock types. The different ways of making sweets affect how good they were for smashing up. This was used as an analogy to demonstrate how different rock types are good, and others are not, at making tools.
Now its time for a rest before Monday!
Thanks Rob

Yesterday one of our Archaeology PhD students Rob Leedham was participating in the Lancashire Science Festival Harris late event in the Harris museum. Rob met over 20 members of the public, talking to them about his research into lithic technology and understanding the Mesolithic-Neolithic transition in Cumbria. These fun experiences form part of the outreach commitment of his PhD.
Rob and Nathaniel Welsby will also be at the Lancashire Science festival between the 27th-29th of June discussing the latest research into this period, educating children about the fantastic research into past environments and Lithics.
