Great to see one of our local young farmers clubs backing British dairy 🇬🇧🥛🐮

Won’t be long until the cows are allowed back out in the fields to enjoy the grass pastures and get to enjoy some much deserved sun.
We are hoping to invite our customers and members of the public along to our farm in a few weeks time, to watch the first turnout of the cows, which is always a wonderful sight, and learn a bit more about the farm from us. So watch this space for a date!

We had a fantastic day looking at the current and future technology involved within the dairy industry. It’s with great sadness that only a few days after his return, we said our last goodbye to Frank our farm cat.
Sadly, this morning we found him out by the roadside in front of farm, where he had been hit by a car during the night we believe. We brought him inside, warmed him up as best we could, before he passed away peacefully.
Frank has been with us for about 6 years we believe, and we are all gutted to lose him so suddenly. The rats and mice will sleep a little easier tonight without our frank on the prowl. Rest easy, Frank.

Bit of a different job this afternoon for us. Today we trimmed the cows tails. We do this every year, before spring begins to arrive. This is done to clear the excess hair away from the end of their tails. The hair tends to collect manure from the cows (they are not brilliant at aiming their numbers twos), and unless we trim them, become a favourite interest of flies during the summer when the cows are out in the fields.
A before and after can be seen in the second image. The cows can still use their tails as fly swots, but we help make sure their fly swot is not the thing attracting the flies!

The return of the Frank the farm cat!
After a two month hiatus from the farm, out doing what we can only imagine a feral Tom cat gets up to, we are pleased at the start of this afternoons shift to see Frank had returned to the farm. Eager to be fed his cat food and milk, along with a few noggin scratches, it’s great to have our ratter in chief back.
Frank has been with us many years now, we can’t remember exactly when he appeared, but one day he was there, and he’s used the... farm as his base of operations since. Usually returning when it’s getting cold at night to make use of our warm, straw filled sheds, or to have his war wounds tended to! We’ve helped him beat a bout of mange and helped him beat a nasty cut that got infected.
He’s disappeared into the farm to let the any rats know that frank is back in town!

On another cold, wet, and gale force wind day we had a lovely surprise this afternoon as the RAF landed one of their helicopters in our fields.
This is part of an ongoing partnership we’ve had with RAF Benson over several years who use our fields to practice landing their helicopters, mainly using the smaller paddocks as they are a good simulation of landing in small compounds with the hedges acting as the walls of the compounds would. They always make sure they are cleared ...to land in our fields before they do, but do not tell us exactly when, usually it’s during the night as they practice night landings and operations, but lucky for us we got to see a day landing. Much to the bemusement of the cows watching from the shed! We certainly wouldn’t want to be a pilot in these winds!
We are very privileged to help out the RAF and always look forward to seeing or hearing them!

Busy day today, with three months straight of rain and no end in sight, we have been unable to move any muck off the farm for several weeks now. We transport all our muck to the neighbouring arable farm, which is then spread onto the fields after harvest. Due to the fields being incredibly wet, the tractors and trailers are churning up the ground, leaving large ruts in the fields and pulling lots of mud onto the road, which isn’t good for anyone!
Very kindly another neighbou...r has agreed to allow us to store it in his concrete yard. So a big yard tidy up today, before a big day transporting it down to our neighbours farm tomorrow.
Spreading this muck once it has dried and fermented this summer is brilliant for soil health, and is an excellent 100% natural fertiliser!
It’s always important for us to remember that the farm operation and the production of everyone’s food is totally at the mercy of Mother Nature! We are looking forward to spring and summer already, bring on the sunshine! ☀️🐮

Very interesting watch. During the summer months our herd is rotated around our fields using this exact method. This is also true of a vast majority of UK livestock farms. All of this helps us combat climate change! 🌳
