We're back!
First session back from summer break, we'll be looking over some of what we've done previously and setting some goals for the fall and winter. Exciting stuff!
So come and join in with the singing of Swedish folk and traditional songs! All abilities and voices warmly welcome. No requirements for reading music; all you need is a love of singing in Swedish! (The session is led exclusively in Swedish.)
... The cost of the session is £8/person. We will have a break for coffee/tea.
The session is held at Zest Deli & Café 130 Stoke Lane, Westbury on Trym Bristol BS9 1RJ - https://www.facebook.com/Zest-Deli-Cafe-1 64770306873345/

Really enjoying my current trip to Sweden, especially the libraries and museums! 💕Some research for new songs (and old stories) include the folklore of Swedish birds, nature beliefs and erotic beings. And witches!

Really looking forward to this next gig! 😃💀❤

So this is my week just gone in pictures; from last Sunday's ComiCon at Exter Uni with my larp group, attending a really good talk organised by the Musicians Union on promotion, visiting Exeter craft market and yesterday a visit to Glastonbury, all interspersed with lots of admin/writing on trains! #busybee

I'm at #RespectFestival today, 2.20-2.40 at the Equality stage (Widsith and Deor storytelling stage). With lots of glitter and a bit of death. 💀☀🎶 #glitteranddeath #darkfolk

A little video with sound recording from last months rehearsal with the Swedish Choir in Bristol.
The song "När som flickorna de gifta sig" is a traditional song from Småland, this particular arrangement is by Ulrika Gunnarsson, from her publication/folk song-school "Häxgnägg och pärlband" ("Witches'-whinny's and pearl ribbons").
They didn't know I was recording them at the time, mwwuahhahaha!

When you're trying to take a decent selfie and some medieval drum just pushes in and tries to steal the show..!

Time for some singing!
This month the Swedish choir will start looking at songs with a summer theme. It is just around the corner after all!
So come and join in for the May session of the Swedish Choir in Bristol! All abilities and voices warmly welcome. No requirements for reading music; all you need is a love of singing in Swedish!
... We will continue to sing songs from the amazing treasure-trove of Swedish folk and traditional songs, as well as a few borrowed gems from our Scandinavian neighbours, and maybe even from further afield.
The cost of the session is £8/person. We will have a break for coffee/tea.

Inspiration to come home to: https://www.thewrightbook.com/…/br…/g ood-faeries-bad-faeries
With amazing illustrations by Brian Froud. I wonder which side will feature more in future performances?
... Do you have a favourite faery story?

I just love this image; it really captures stillness and quiet. Maybe anticipation of dawn and renewal. Old meets new and the circle of all things turns again. Amazing
And it's taken by local photographer, writer, folklorist and all-round pretty amazing guy, Jez Winship.

So organic and cage like at the same time, I would totally wear this!

Listen to the little tune that's playing just for you, sing along...and if you feel like it, bang your drum!

"As you're pretty so be wise; wolves may lurk in every guise!"
Loving this illustration by Peter Strain, inspired by The First Lady of Dark Folklore fiction, Angela Carter's "The Bloody Chamber and other stories".

User

A powerful show! Well worth seeing if you haven't, and seeing again if you have!

Ulrika's EP; 'Singing Stories, Weaving Tales' is fantastic!! Ulrika has such a beautiful voice. I love how each track tells you a new story and that there's such diversity between her songs and tales. I'm looking forward to being back in the UK so that I can attend a live performance :)
