Unicam Limited Description

The Unicam Therapeutic Pedal System has unique knee, hip and ankle mobilising functions and action. The pedal cranks can be adjusted to accommodate any range of movement as well as providing specific unilateral and bilateral strengthening fuctions.
Routinely used following knee, hip and ankle surgery, soft tissue injuries and arthritic conditions, Uni Cam systems offer:

Pain-free Exercise
Increased Recovery Rate from Surgery or Injury
Unique Ankle Mobilisation Techniques
Adjustable to ANY Range of Movement
Improved Circulation, General Health and Wellbeing

The Access TPS 3 is the top of the range Unicam Access system. It combines the Access ability to accommodate a wide range of lower limb injuries. The easy to use incrementally adjustable crank system provides a unique range of exercises for knee, hip and ankle mobilisation, strength and endurance training. This system provides the maximum functionality and meets the needs of diverse facilities handling the full range of lower limb conditions.

Patient driven Therapist controlled exercises offer repeatable and measurable outcomes.

High repetition of movement within short timescales promotes quick and effective increases in joint flexibility. Patients report a sense of achievement and motivation on a session by session basis.

When fitted with a Unicam therapeutic pedal system the clinical use of a standard cycle is greatly extended as it allows patients with lower limb impairments /injuries to use “Cyclotherapy” as part of their routine treatment.

The pedal crank on a conventional cycle is of a fixed length and requires a normal range of joint function and strength to be able to complete a full rotation. Unicam’s cleverly designed pedal system comprises of a crank arm with a series of nine locations to which a special pedal is attached. By using various configurations it is possible to progress a patient with loss of function and strength in the hip, knee, or ankle.

The Unicam Retroflex further utilises this unique movement to enable almost all abilities to enjoy the benefits of cycling.
Cycling regularily will help improve strength, joint mobility and reduce pain asocciated with stiff and painful joints.

Retroflex accommodates almost any restriction in knee, ankle and hip bend ranges and can be used on one or both sides.

Fits to the majority of exercise cycles and bicycles using a three piece square tapered crank or Isis crank arrangement.

Easy to follow fitting instructions
Fully adjustable
Manufactured from light weight alloy
Easily transferable from bike to bike

The pedal crank on a conventional cycle is of a fixed length and requires a normal range of joint function and strength to be able to complete a full rotation. Unicam’s cleverly designed pedal system comprises of a crank arm with a series of nine locations to which a special pedal is attached.

The Retroflex can accommodate a cycling action with NO knee movement, where flex in the ankle is sufficient to cycle. The system can accommodate knee bend ranges of as little as 10 degrees and is incrementally adjustable.

What a fantastic and versatile solution for anyone with restricted lower limb joint[s]or missing joint problems.

Easily fitted onto standard bikes.

This is a quality product and a great engineering solution.

Highly recommended.

User

This product is amazing - well done Paul, you've kept dreams alive for those of us with limited knee-bends. My accident 20 years ago took away so many sports, but I regained the fun of cycling in my life thanks to your invention. The rehab places that use your kit should advertise for you (this is how I contacted you all those years ago), their patients would be grateful to have access to fun & fitness without depending on physio sessions. Well done, you are my hero.

User

This product has revolutionised my concept of what my ability would be after a double artificial knee replacement. I am totally independent now but shortly after I hated being dependent on others to get me out and about. The Unicam has many settings and can be altered to the new ability either way. I cannot thank the engineers who came up with the design. Many people look at the bike and then understand why they look like that. I would recommend Unicam 100%.

User

This piece of equipment came to my notice after having a total knee replacement and attempting to retrieve a useable amount of flexion in my replaced knee joint.

The equipment is easily fitted to the crank of any road cycle and is easily used and adjusted.

When I fitted the bespoke adjustable crank and pedal to my road bike the progress of improving flexion in my knee increased steadily and I can definately state has made the differance between having very good mobility and being partially disabled. Brilliant piece of kit. Thank you unicam and Paul Butterworth.

User

Paul fitted a Unicam to my bike in 2011, after I had a botched knee replacement. Now I am even older, I have now transfer-ed it to a tricycle and at 87 still happily riding. Brilliant piece of engineering.

User

I'm a 67 yo male living with about 18% flex in my left knee and until finding Paul and Unicam I hadn't been able to ride a bike in 27 years. Paul was extremely helpful and prompt to answer question.

As I live in Sweden, I had some reservations as to the adaptability of the Unicam to our bikes here. I sent over the info on the eBike I was eyeing and he confirmed it would work. Purchased the Unicam and it arrived within days. My local bike shop took the instructions and installed the Unicam on my new Shimao Steps eBike.

I now feel free as a bird or like a kid who just got his first bike. What a joy to ride again. And, it’s all thanks to Paul and the Unicam. Thanks Paul

User

I bought a retroflex adaptation for my cross country mountain bike in 2012 and have had many happy hours peddling. Last week I had the retroflex fitted on my new Carrera hybrid. I am looking forward to many more hours riding. I believe bike riding has strengthened my knee which has only 70 degrees bend following a severe road traffic collision in 2010. This product is life changing and more health care professionals need to know about it. Thank you Paul

User

Having not cycled for over 35 years due to a motorcycle accident leaving me with a very limited knee bend, I thought those days had gone forever. But thanks to Paul at Unicam I’m back in the saddle! The Retroflex is a fantastic bit of kit. I wish I had known about it years ago. I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you have similar issues talk to Paul!

Thanks again.

Phil Powell Weymouth.

User

Following a total knee replacement in 2011 resulting in an 87% knee bend I heard of Paul's wonderful cycle innovation which could aid poor knee bend sufferers

to cycle again. Once fitted by Paul the results were immediate and my flexion

improved dramatically. With my husband I managed to cycle nearly 500 klms

in the South of France the same year. The Unicam fitment had given me back my joy of cycling. My friend took a close up video of me showing the pedal

action and knee flexion . It is somewhere on Unicam You Tube.

The best invention ever. Thank you so much Paul. Norma Varley Lincolnshire
