UNISON is pleased to note that a decision on the future of the Barnsley school catering service has been postponed until Summer 2020.
After discussions at Cabinet on Wednesday, 29 May, Barnsley Council will continue to explore with schools ways in which the school meals catering service can be maintained.
UNISON will continue to campaign for the excellent in-house service to be retained and to work with our members in Barnsley schools to continue to purchase the service.
... Cabinet decided that the council should continue discussions with schools about their future plans, while also exploring digital improvements that could make the service more attractive. Over the coming months, talks will take place with schools around cost and the type of service that they wish to purchase which will help the council to determine the number of school contracts they are likely to keep.
Thank you to everyone who has supported UNISON's campaign so far. Our members are extremely grateful and look forward to continuing to work with you for the benefit of children in Barnsley.
