‘The Future of News and All That’ 5.15pm, Wednesday 2nd March 2016 Havelock Road Lecture Theatre, Havelock Road, Hastings
“While journalism prospers, so does democracy” John Ryley –Head of Sky News
... In the first Journalism and Digital Media hub speaker series talk of 2016 John Ryley, Head of Sky News, will visit the Hastings campus to speak of how he considers “The Golden age of journalism is now ....and even more so in the immediate future” and how whilst journalists have evermore tools at their disposal, this growth of technology has also opened up a world of myths and half-truths.
John started his career as a graduate News trainee with the BBC, working on their main evening news programme, before moving to ITV where he was programme editor for the News at Ten. In 1995 John moved to Sky as an Executive producer before becoming Head of Sky news in 2006, since which he has challenged convention and championed digital innovation. In 2009, he launched a successful campaign for Britain's first live televised Leaders’ Debates in the run-up to the UK General Election in 2010.
John, who has previously spoken at the Cambridge Union Society, will be speak about his career, the role of journalism and how constant technological revolution has made this a better time to be a journalist than ever before in this inspiring, not to be missed talk.
This event is open to all students and staff, however place are limited and booking is essential, please book your place at:
