University Of Brighton Tamil Society Description

WELCOME TO THE UNIVERSITY OF BRIGHTON TAMIL SOCIETY PAGE!

As stated in our description, Brighton Tamil Society is a community of like-minded individuals, who enjoy the vibrant Tamil culture of music, food and social gatherings.

We are not religiously orientated and therefore all students are encouraged to join us, regardless of background or ethnicity.

Signing up to our society is free during the months of September and October, to enable newcomers a chance to see what we're like!

If you miss the chance to join us then, you are more than welcome to join us by paying the £5 membership fee for the academic year. (Please Note: this money goes directly into the Society account and is used to enable the committee to provide more events. Members who pay the £5 fee are exclusively entitled to discount on all of our events and merchandise)

SO WHAT DO WE DO?

Primarily, the current committee of 2016-2017 is focusing on reuniting the society after losing affiliation last year.

The Main Aims this year are:

- Create an enticing and exciting Tamil Society stand at the Fresher's Fair 2016 to enable more signups for prospective members
- Re-Launch the society with a 'fresh look', a new Facebook Page, Instagram account and Snapchat!
- Launch the 'Mutton Rolls Monday' once a month, to encourage the tasting of Tamil food and educating fellow students and staff on who Brighton Tamil Society are
- Host a Bar Crawl in the first term, to encourage more members to join us and to promote our main event of the year in December
- Host the Annual Tamil Event at the end of the winter term, increasing attendance to more than 60 guests
- Encourage the creation of a Brighton Tamil Society Football Team, to compete against other societies
- Provide information and access to all of our members to stand in the Elections for the Committee for 2017-2018
- Host a Shisha Night during the Spring Term, for a relaxed and chilled evening of socialising
- Host a new event during the Summer Term, following the style of our Annual Winter Tamil Event, increasing the attendance to more than 80 guests
- Successfully hand over the society at the end of June 2017 to our new committee members, ensuring they are well equipped to start 2017-2018!
