The University has welcomed its first two recipients of the Portsmouth Global PhD scholarship scheme!
Sheila Schuindt Do Carmo from Brazil and Obinwa Ozonze from Nigeria will be undertaking research projects with the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences and the School of Computing respectively.

Today is the official Chinese Language Day, with the date selected as today to honour the important ancient figure in Chinese history: Cangjie.
Cangjie is said to be the inventor of traditional Chinese characters, as he was the historian of the mythical Yellow Emperor who reigned over 4000 years ago!

It's National Monuments Day today so here's a showcase of just a handful of monuments dotted along our seafront!
Portsmouth is of course a city rich in naval history, often finding itself the launching place of a huge number of famous battles, voyages and expeditions. Because of this, the city is home to more monuments than you'd find normally, from statues dedicated to Nelson himself to memorials to fallen soldiers.

A reminder to all students that the University is closed for this bank holiday weekend from 5PM today.
We'll be open again Tuesday morning first thing, with our student advisers available from 10AM as usual if you need to come in and discuss anything!

The deadline to apply for halls of residence this year is 31 May.
This means you have roughly 6 weeks remaining if you're applying to us to get the best shot at where you'd like to live, so be sure to make your choice as soon as possible!

This is a great opportunity for all students and staff.

87% of students said in an NUS Survey that they experience stress during their studies, of course, stress isn't always a bad thing, but learning to effectively manage your stress is a powerful tool during your time at university.
This month it's Stress Awareness Month, so be on the lookout where you can for stress in your friends and yourself, you never know when listening to a friend talk could help them out!

A small reminder to all of our Islamic Staff and Students, the Mercantile and Nuffield prayer rooms will be closed over Easter Weekend.
They'll be closing at midnight this Thursday and re-opening again on the morning of Tuesday 23 April due to both Friday and Monday being Bank Holidays.
We wish all of our Islamic friends a peaceful weekend and of course if you're an international student, please don't hesitate to come in and talk to use before Friday or after Monday if you n...eed to!
